41 After Jesus prayed a third time, he went back to his followers. Jesus said to them, “You are still sleeping and resting? That’s enough! The time has come for the Son of Man {\cf2\super [208]} to be given to sinful people.

Jesus walked a little more away from them. Then Jesus fell to the ground and prayed. Jesus prayed that, if possible, he would not have this time of suffering.


Jesus wanted to teach his followers alone. Jesus said to them, “The Son of Man {\cf2\super [112]} will be given to people that will kill him. After three days, he will rise from death.”


After Jesus said these things he looked toward heaven. Jesus prayed, “Father, the time has come. Give glory to your Son so that the Son can give glory to you.


Your ancestors persecuted {\cf2\super [148]} every prophet {\cf2\super [149]} that ever lived. Those prophets said long ago that the Righteous One (Christ {\cf2\super [150]})would come. But your ancestors killed those prophets. And now you have turned against the Righteous One and killed him.


“Now I am very troubled. What should I say? Should I say, ‘Father save me from this time \{of suffering\}’? No, I came to this time so that I could suffer.


Jesus said to them, “Now is the time for the Son of Man {\cf2\super [200]} to receive his glory.


Jesus said these things while he was teaching in the temple {\cf2\super [132]} area. He was near the place where all the people came to give money. But no person arrested him. The right time for Jesus had not yet come.


When Jesus said this, the people tried to get him. But no person was able to touch Jesus. It was not yet the right time \{for Jesus to be killed\}.


While they were all at the table eating, Jesus said, “I tell you the truth. One of you will be against me—one of you eating with me now.”


Then one of the twelve apostles {\cf2\super [196]} went to talk to the leading priests. This was the follower named Judas Iscariot. Judas wanted to give Jesus to them.


Then Jesus said to them: “You think you are smart! You ignore the commands of God so that you can follow your own teachings!


“You know that the day after tomorrow is Passover. {\cf2\super [391]} On that day the Son of Man {\cf2\super [392]} will be given \{to his enemies\} to be killed on a cross.”


Now, family of Israel, the Lord my Master says these things, “If any person wants to worship his filthy idols, then let him go and worship them. But later, don’t think you will get any advice from me! You will not ruin my name any more! Not when you continue to give your gifts to your filthy idols.”


So young people, enjoy yourselves while you are young. Be happy! Do whatever your heart leads you to do. Do whatever you want. But remember that God will judge you for everything you do.


Elisha said to the king of Israel (Jehoram), “What do you want from me? Go to the prophets of your father and mother!”


Then Micaiah stood before King Ahab. The king asked him, “Micaiah, should King Jehoshaphat and I join armies? And should we go now to fight against the army of Aram at Ramoth?”


At noon Elijah began to make fun of them. Elijah said, “If Baal [204] is really a god, then maybe you should pray louder! Maybe he is thinking! Or maybe he is busy! Or maybe he is traveling! He could be sleeping! Maybe you should pray louder and wake him!”


You like worshiping those gods, so go call to them for help. Let those gods save you when you are in trouble.”


Then Jesus went back to the followers. Again Jesus found them sleeping. Their eyes were very tired. The followers did not know what they should say to Jesus.


Stand up! We must go. Here comes the man who is giving me to those people.”
