20 Now, listen! You will not be able to talk until the day when these things happen. You will lose your speech. Why? Because you did not believe what I told you. But these things will really happen.”

At that time, you will be able to speak to that person. You won’t be silent any more. In this way, you will be an example for them. Then they will know that I am the Lord.”


“I correct and punish those people that I love. So start trying hard! Change your hearts and lives!


Those two things cannot change. God cannot lie when he says something and he cannot lie when he makes a vow. So those things give great comfort to us who came to God for safety. Those two things give us comfort and strength to continue in the hope that God gives us.


Then Zechariah came outside, but he could not speak to them. So the people knew that Zechariah had seen a vision {\cf2\super [9]} inside the temple. Zechariah could not speak. He could only make signs to the people.


That faith and that knowledge come from our hope for life forever. God promised that life to us before time began—and God does not lie.


If we are not faithful,\par he will still be faithful,\par because he cannot be false to himself.\par


What a blessing is yours because you believed what the Lord (God) said to you! You believed this would happen.”


Later Jesus showed himself to the eleven followers while they were eating. Jesus criticized the followers because they had little faith. They were stubborn and refused to believe the people that said Jesus had risen from death.


Jesus answered, “You people don’t believe! How long must I stay with you? How long must I continue to be patient with you? Bring the boy to me!”


Their plan will not succeed while Samaria is the capital of Ephraim (Israel) and while the ruler of Samaria is Remaliah’s son. {\cf2\super [81]} If you don’t believe this message then people should not believe you.”


But that officer had answered the man of God, “Even if the Lord made windows in heaven, this could not happen!” And Elisha had told {the officer,} “You will see it with your own eyes. But you will not eat any of that food.”


Then the officer that was close to the king [76] answered the man of God [77] (Elisha). The officer said, “Even if the Lord made windows in heaven, this could not happen!”


But the Lord said to Moses and Aaron, “All the people of Israel were gathered around. But you did not show me honor. You did not show the people of Israel that the power to make the water came from me. You did not show the people that you trusted in me. I will give those people the land that I promised them. But you will not lead them into that land!”


Then the Lord said to him, “Who made a person’s mouth? And who can make a person deaf or not able to speak? Who can make a person blind? Who can make a person able to see? {I am the One who can do all these things—}I am YAHWEH. [33]


It is true that some Jews were not faithful to God. But will that stop God from doing what he promised?


“While the man was talking to me, I bowed low with my face toward the ground. I could not speak.


The angel answered him, “I am Gabriel. I always stand ready before God. God sent me to talk to you and to tell you this good news.


Outside, the people were still waiting for Zechariah. They were surprised that he was staying so long in the temple. {\cf2\super [8]}


Then Zechariah could talk again. He began to praise God.
