John 20:1 - Easy To Read Version

1 Early on Sunday morning Mary Magdalene went to the tomb {\cf2\super [261]} \{where Jesus’ body was\}. It was still dark. Mary saw that the large stone \{that covered the entrance\} was moved away.

Jesus rose from death early on the first day of the week. Jesus showed himself first to Mary from Magdala. One time in the past, Jesus had forced seven demons {\cf2\super [239]} to leave Mary.


Joseph put Jesus’ body in a new tomb (grave) that Joseph had dug in a wall of rock. Then he closed the tomb by rolling a very large stone to cover the entrance. After he did these things, Joseph went away.


Joseph bought some linen cloth. Joseph took the body \{from the cross\} and wrapped the body in the linen. Then Joseph put the body in a tomb (grave) that was dug in a wall of rock. Then Joseph closed the tomb by rolling a large stone to cover the entrance.


A week later the followers were in the house again. Thomas was with them. The doors were locked, but Jesus came and stood among them. Jesus said, “Peace be with you!”


Jesus’ mother stood near his cross. His mother’s sister was also standing there with Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary of Magdala.


On the Lord’s day the Spirit {\cf2\super [9]} took control of me. I heard a loud voice behind me. It sounded like a trumpet.


So give the order for the tomb to be guarded well until after three days. His followers might come and try to steal the body. Then they could tell the people that he has risen from death. That lie will be even worse than what they said about him before.”


On the first day of every week each one of you should save as much money as you can from what you are blessed with. You should put this money in a special place and keep it there. Then you will not have to gather your money after I come.


On Sunday, {\cf2\super [397]} we all met together to eat \{the Lord’s Supper\}. {\cf2\super [398]} Paul talked to the group. He was planning to leave the next day. Paul continued talking until midnight.


Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James and Joseph, and the mother of James and John {\cf2\super [436]} were there.


So they all went to the tomb and made it safe from thieves. They did this by sealing the stone in the entrance and putting soldiers there to guard it.


The day after the Sabbath day {\cf2\super [439]} was the first day of the week. At dawn on the first day, Mary Magdalene and the other woman named Mary went to look at the tomb. {\cf2\super [440]}


At that time there was a very strong earthquake. An angel of the Lord came from the sky. The angel went to the tomb {\cf2\super [441]} and rolled the stone away from the entrance. Then the angel sat on the stone.


Again Jesus felt very upset.


So they moved the stone away from the entrance. Then Jesus looked up and said, “Father, I thank you that you heard me.
