John 18:28 - Easy To Read Version

28 Then the guards took Jesus from Caiaphas’ house to the \{Roman governor’s\} palace. It was early in the morning. The Jews there would not go inside the palace. They did not want to make themselves unclean, {\cf2\super [237]} because they wanted to eat the Passover {\cf2\super [238]} meal.

Pilate went back inside the palace. He asked Jesus, “Where are you from?” But Jesus did not answer him.


Then Pilate went back inside the palace. Pilate called Jesus to him. He asked Jesus, “Are you the king of the Jews?”


It was now almost noon on Preparation day {\cf2\super [242]} of Passover {\cf2\super [243]} week. Pilate said to the Jews, “Here is your king!”


Then Pilate’s soldiers brought Jesus into the governor’s palace. All the soldiers gathered around Jesus.


No! God did it! He is the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. {\cf2\super [52]} He is the God of all our fathers. {\cf2\super [53]} He gave glory to Jesus, his special servant. But you gave Jesus to be killed. Pilate decided to let Jesus go free. But you told Pilate you did not want Jesus.


It was almost time for the Jewish Passover {\cf2\super [186]} festival. Many people from the country went to Jerusalem before the Passover. They went to do the special things to make themselves pure \{for the Passover\}.


They said, “You went into the homes of people that are not Jews and are not circumcised {\cf2\super [220]} ! You even ate with them!”


Peter said to the people, “You people understand that it is against our Jewish law for a Jew to associate with or visit any person who is not a Jew. But God has shown me that I should not call any person ‘unholy’ or ‘not clean.’


But it is one of your customs for me to free one prisoner to you at the time of the Passover. {\cf2\super [239]} Do you want me to free this ‘king of the Jews’?”


Trouble will come to people\par that make plans to sin.\par Those people lie on their beds\par making their evil plans\par Then when the morning light comes,\par they do the bad things they planned.\par Why? Simply because they have the power\par to do what they want.\par


You must go to the place the Lord will choose to be his special house. There you must offer the Passover sacrifice to honor the Lord. You must offer the cows and goats.


The next morning, the older leaders of the people, the leading priests, and the teachers of the law came together. They led Jesus away to their highest court.


Pilate’s soldiers brought Jesus into the governor’s palace (called the Praetorium). They called all the other soldiers together.


“On the 14th day of the first month you must celebrate the Passover. The festival of unleavened bread {\cf2\super [441]} begins at this time. That festival continues for seven days.


Bad people can’t sleep until they do something wrong. Those people can’t sleep until they hurt some other person.


Those bad people race to do bad things. They are in a hurry to kill someone!


They used bad language\par and made fun of me.\par Those people showed they were angry at me by grinding their teeth.\par


and brought him to Annas. Annas was the father-in-law of Caiaphas. Caiaphas was the high priest {\cf2\super [229]} that year.


Simon Peter and another one of Jesus’ followers went with Jesus. This follower knew the high priest. {\cf2\super [230]} So he went with Jesus into the yard of the high priest’s house.


Jesus answered, “The only power you have over me is the power given to you by God. So the man who gave me to you is guilty of a greater sin.”


These things really happened when Herod, {\cf2\super [76]} Pontius Pilate, the nations, and the Jewish people all ‘came together’ against Jesus here in Jerusalem. Jesus is your holy Servant. He is the One you (God) made to be the Christ. {\cf2\super [77]}


So send some men to the city of Joppa. Ask Simon Peter to come. Peter is staying in the house of a man, also named Simon, who is a leatherworker. {\cf2\super [209]} His house is beside the sea.’
