My best friend ate with me.\par I trusted him.\par But now, even he has turned against me.\par


Jesus answered, “The man that has dipped his hand into the same bowl with me is the person that will be against me.


While I was with them, I kept them safe. I kept them safe by the power of your name—the name you gave me. I protected them. And only one of them was lost—the man (Judas) that chose to be lost. He was lost so that what was said in the Scriptures {\cf2\super [225]} would happen.


Jesus answered, “The man who is against me is one of you twelve. He is the one who dips his bread into the same bowl with me.


Jesus answered, “I will dip this bread into the dish. The man I give it to is the man that will turn against me.” So Jesus took a piece of bread. He dipped it and gave it to Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon.


Then Jesus answered, “I chose all twelve of you. But one of you is a devil.”


If you belonged to the world, then the world would love you like it loves its own people. But I have chosen you out of the world. So you don’t belong to the world. That is why the world hates you.


Nothing in all the world can be hidden from God. He can clearly see all things. Everything is open before him. And to him we must explain the way we have lived.


You did not choose me; I chose you. And I gave you this work: to go and make fruit. I want this fruit to continue \{in your life\}. Then the Father will give you anything you ask for in my name.


I will also kill her followers. Then all the churches will know that I am the One who knows what people feel and think. And I will repay each of you for the things you have done.


A third time Jesus said, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?”


We don’t tell people about ourselves. But we tell people that Jesus Christ is Lord; and we tell people that we are your servants for Jesus.


While they were eating together, Ishmael and his ten men got up and killed Gedaliah son of Ahikam with a sword. Gedaliah was the man that the king of Babylon had chosen to be governor of Judah.


They were all eating. Then Jesus said, “I tell you the truth. One of you twelve here will soon give me to my enemies.”


In the evening, Jesus went to that house with the twelve apostles. {\cf2\super [201]}


While they were all at the table eating, Jesus said, “I tell you the truth. One of you will be against me—one of you eating with me now.”


Jesus said, “One of you will soon be against me. His hand is by my hand on the table.


After Jesus said these things, he felt very troubled. Jesus said openly, “I tell you the truth. One of you will be against me.”


Jesus’ followers all looked at each other. They did not understand who the person was that Jesus was talking about.


But this happened so that what is written in their law would be true: ‘They hated me for no reason.’ {\cf2\super [219]}


(This happened so that what Jesus said about how he would die would be true.)


So the soldiers said to each other, “We should not tear this into parts \{to divide it\}. We should choose lots {\cf2\super [247]} to see who will get it.” This happened so that it would be like the Scripture {\cf2\super [248]} said:


These things happened to give full meaning to the Scriptures {\cf2\super [254]} that said: “None of his bones will be broken” {\cf2\super [255]}


I wrote about the whole life of Jesus, from the beginning until the day he was carried up into heaven. Before this happened, Jesus talked to the apostles {\cf2\super [1]} he had chosen. With the help of the Holy Spirit, {\cf2\super [2]} Jesus told the apostles what they should do.
