“I made your crops die from heat and disease. I destroyed your gardens and your fields of grapes. Locusts {\cf2\super [54]} ate your fig trees and olive trees. But you still didn’t come to me \{for help\}.” The Lord said those things.


I will make my vineyard {\cf2\super [47]} an empty field.\par No person will care for the plants.\par No person will work in the field.\par Weeds and thorns will grow there.\par I will command the clouds\par not to rain on the field.”\par


The vines have become dry.\par And the fig tree is dying.\par All the trees in the field—the pomegranate,\par the palm, and the apple—have withered.\par And happiness among the people is dead.\par


Figs might not grow on the fig trees.\par Grapes might not grow on the vines.\par Olives might not grow on the olive trees.\par Food might not grow in the fields.\par There might not be any sheep in the pens.\par There might not be any cattle in the barns.\par


I will destroy her vines and fig trees. She said, ‘My lovers gave these things to me.’ But I will change her gardens—they will become like a wild forest. Wild animals will come and eat from those plants.


“I will take away their fruit and crops,\par so that there will be no harvest.”\par This message is from the Lord.\par “There will not be any grapes on the vine.\par There will not be any figs on the fig tree.\par Even the leaves will become dry and die.\par I will take away the things I gave them. {\cf2\super [70]} \par


The grapevines are dying. The new wine is bad. In the past, people were happy. But now those people are sad.


God destroyed their vines and fig trees.\par God destroyed every tree in their country.\par


The locusts covered the ground, and the whole country became dark. The locusts ate every plant on the ground and all of the fruit in the trees that the hail had not destroyed. There weren’t any leaves left on any of the trees or plants anywhere in Egypt.


The locusts flew into the country of Egypt and landed on the ground. There were more locusts than there had ever been in Egypt. And there will never again be that many locusts there.


Put those clothes of sadness over your sorrow-filled breasts.


I will not let pests destroy your crops. Your grapevines will all produce grapes.” The Lord All-Powerful said these things.
