“‘Now, see that I and only I am God! There is no other God! I put people to death and I let people live. I can hurt people, and I can make them well. No one can save another person from my power!


When we were with you believers, we lived in a holy and right way, without fault. You know that this is true, and God knows that this is true.


This is what we are proud of, and I can say with all my heart that it is true: In all the things we have done in the world, we have done everything with an honest and pure heart from God. And this is even more true in the things we have done with you. We did this by God’s grace (kindness), not by the kind of wisdom the world has.


A third time Jesus said, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?”


Now I will strip her. She will be naked, so all her lovers can see her. No person will be able to save her from my power. {\cf2\super [16]}


Now, when you hear the sound of the horns, flutes, lyres, {\cf2\super [32]} sambucas, {\cf2\super [33]} harps, bagpipes, {\cf2\super [34]} and all the other musical instruments, you must bow down and worship the gold idol. If you are ready to worship the idol I have made, that will be good. But if you don’t worship it, you will be thrown very quickly into the hot furnace. Then no god will be able to save you from my power!”


You people have forgotten God.\par So you had better understand\par before I tear you apart!\par If that happens,\par no person can save you!\par


You have looked deep into my heart.\par You were with me all night.\par You questioned me\par and found nothing wrong.\par I didn’t plan any bad thing.\par


Lord my God, I did nothing wrong.\par I promise, I did nothing wrong!\par


Why? Because the Lord\par protects good people,\par but destroys bad people.\par


After the Lord finished talking to Job, he spoke to Eliphaz from Teman. The Lord said to Eliphaz, “I am angry at you and your two friends. Why? Because you didn’t say right things about me. But Job is my servant. Job said right things about me.


“Oh, I wish someone would listen to me!\par Let me explain my side.\par I wish God All-Powerful\par would answer me.\par I wish he would write down\par what he thinks I did wrong.\par


then what will I do when I must face God?\par What will I say when God asks me\par to explain what I did?\par


If God would use accurate scales, {\cf2\super [64]} \par then he would know that I am innocent.\par


But God knows me.\par He is testing me and he will see\par that I am as pure as gold.\par


“The Lord is our God! Again we say that the Lord is our God! [72] And God knows why we did this thing. We want you to know also. You can judge what we did. If you believe that we have done something wrong, then you can kill us.


If God takes something away,\par no one can stop him.\par No one can say to him,\par ‘What are you doing?’\par


I am innocent.\par But I don’t know what to think.\par I hate my own life.\par


I say to myself,\par ‘The same thing happens to everybody.\par Innocent people die just like the guilty.\par God ends all their lives.’\par


When I sin, I am guilty\par and it will be very bad for me.\par But I can’t lift up my head\par even when I am innocent!\par I am so ashamed and embarrassed.\par


Job, you say to God,\par ‘My arguments are right,\par and you can see I am pure.’\par


I am ready now to defend myself.\par I will carefully present my arguments.\par I know I will be shown to be right.\par


The evil person might try to run away\par from the power of the storm.\par But the storm will hit him without mercy.\par


Then Job’s three friends gave up trying to answer Job. They gave up because Job was so sure that he himself was truly innocent.


You said:\par ‘I am pure.\par I am innocent\par I did nothing wrong.\par I am not guilty!\par


“Job, do you think that I am not fair?\par You say that I am guilty of doing wrong\par so that you will appear innocent!\par


I have always lived the way God wants.\par I have never stopped following God.\par


“I have always been God. When I do something, no person can change what I have done. And no person can save people from my power.”


Why? Because I will be like a lion to Ephraim.\par I will be like a young lion\par to the nation {\cf2\super [62]} of Judah.\par I—yes, I (the Lord)—will rip them to pieces.\par I will carry them away,\par And no person can save.\par
