Jeremiah 51:44 - Easy To Read Version

44 I will punish the false god Bel {\cf2\super [428]} in Babylon.\par I will make him vomit out the people\par that he swallowed.\par The wall around Babylon will fall.\par And other nations will stop coming\par to Babylon.\par

The Lord All-Powerful says:\par “Babylon’s thick, strong wall\par will be pulled down.\par Her high gates will be burned.\par The people of Babylon will work hard,\par but it will not help.\par They will become very tired\par trying to save the city.\par But they will only become fuel\par for the flames.”\par


“Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, destroyed us in the past.\par In the past, Nebuchadnezzar hurt us.\par In the past, he took our people away,\par and we became like an empty jar.\par He took the best we had.\par He was like a giant monster\par that ate everything until it was full.\par He took the best we had\par and threw us away.\par


“Announce this to all nations!\par Lift up a flag and announce the message!\par Speak the whole message and say,\par ‘The nation of Babylon will be captured.\par The god Bel {\cf2\super [407]} will be put to shame.\par The god Marduk {\cf2\super [408]} will be very afraid.\par Babylon’s idols will be put to shame.\par Her idol gods will be filled with terror.’\par


In the last days, the mountain of the Lord’s temple {\cf2\super [17]} will be on the highest of the mountains. It will be raised higher than all the hills. There will be a steady stream of people from all nations going there.


A man named Darius the Mede became the new king. Darius was about 62 years old.


“This is what these words mean:


People from many nations and people that spoke many languages were very afraid of Nebuchadnezzar. Why? Because the God Most High made him a very important king. If Nebuchadnezzar wanted a person to die, then he killed that person. And if he wanted a person to live, then that person was allowed to live. If he wanted to make people important, then he made those people important. And if he wanted to make people not important, then he made them not important.


King, you are that tree! You have become great and powerful. You are like the tall tree that touched the sky—and your power reaches to the far parts of the earth.


King Nebuchadnezzar sent this letter to the many nations and people that speak other languages and live all around the world.


So, I now make this law: The people of any nation or of any language that says anything against the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego will be cut to pieces. And that person’s house will be destroyed until it is a pile of dirt and ashes. No other god can save his people like this.”


The Lord allowed Nebuchadnezzar to defeat Jehoiakim king of Judah. Nebuchadnezzar took all of the dishes and other things from God’s temple. Nebuchadnezzar carried those things to Babylon. Nebuchadnezzar put those things in the temple of his idol gods.


Babylon might grow\par until she touches the sky.\par Babylon might make her forts strong.\par But I will send people\par to fight against that city.\par And those people will destroy her.”\par The Lord said these things.\par


The time will surely come—\par I will punish the false gods of Babylon.\par And the whole land of Babylon\par will be put to shame.\par There will be many, many dead people,\par lying in the streets of that city.\par


Those idols are worthless.\par People made those idols,\par and they are nothing but a joke.\par Their time of judgment will come,\par and those idols will be destroyed.\par


Soldiers around Babylon,\par shout the cry of victory!\par Babylon has surrendered!\par Her walls and towers\par have been pulled down!\par The Lord is giving those people\par the punishment they should have.\par You nations should give Babylon\par the punishment she deserves.\par Do to her what she has done\par to other nations.\par


\{This will happen in the future.\}\par And at that time, you will see your people,\par and your faces will shine \{with happiness\}.\par \{First,\} you will be afraid,\par but then, you will be excited!\par All the riches from across the seas\par will be set before you.\par The riches of the nations\par will come to you.\par


Nebuchadnezzar took some of the things from the Lord’s temple. He carried those things to Babylon and put them in his own house.


Look! They are coming! I see rows of men and horse soldiers.”


The evil man has swallowed riches.\par But he will vomit them out.\par God will make the evil person\par vomit them out.\par
