2 The Lord says,\par “The time will come in Rabbah of Ammon {\cf2\super [396]} \par when people hear the sounds of battle.\par Rabbah of Ammon will be destroyed.\par It will be an empty hill\par covered with destroyed buildings.\par And the towns around it will be burned.\par Those people forced the people of Israel\par to leave their own land.\par But later, Israel will force them to leave.”\par The Lord said these things.\par

In the spring, at the time when kings go out to war, David sent Joab, his officers, and all of the Israelites out to destroy the Ammonites. Joab’s army also attacked {their capital city} Rabbah.


This message is about the Ammonite people.The Lord says:


Zion, {\cf2\super [530]} listen and be happy!\par Cities of Judah, be happy!\par Why? Because the Lord makes wise decisions.\par


\{God,\} Mount Zion is happy.\par The towns of Judah rejoice\par because of your good decisions.\par


Israel took all the Amorite cities and began living in them. They even defeated the city of Heshbon and all the small towns around it.


“If you are fighting an enemy in your own land, then blow loudly on the trumpets before you go to fight them. The Lord your God will hear you, and he will save you from your enemies.


Then you must gather all the valuable things and take them to the center of the city and burn the city and everything in it. It will be a burnt offering to the Lord your God. The city must become an empty pile of rocks forever. That city must never be built again.


The people of Manasseh also had towns in the area of Issachar and Asher. Beth Shean, Ibleam and the small towns around them belonged to the people of Manasseh. People of Manasseh also lived in Dor, Endor, Taanach, Megiddo, and the small towns around those cities. They also lived in the three towns of Naphoth.


The people of Joseph said, “It is true that the hill country of Ephraim is not large enough for us. But the Canaanite people living there have powerful weapons—they have iron chariots! [62] And those people control Jezreel Valley, Beth Shean and all the small towns in that area.”


This is the sad message for Damascus. {\cf2\super [174]} The Lord says these things will happen to Damascus:


But Ephraim and Judah will attack the Philistines. {\cf2\super [136]} These two nations will be like birds flying down to catch a small animal. Together, they will take the riches from the people in the east. Ephraim and Judah will control Edom, Moab, {\cf2\super [137]} and the people in Ammon. {\cf2\super [138]}


And you, evil leader of Israel, you will be killed. Your time of punishment has come! The end is here!”
