Soldiers came to take things\par from every place in that empty land.\par The Lord used those armies\par to punish that land.\par People from one end of the land\par to the other were punished.\par No person was safe.\par


Jesus said to Peter, “Put your sword back in its place! I must accept the cup {\cf2\super [228]} \{of suffering\} the Father has given me.”


“‘Put the sword (Babylon) back in its sheath. {\cf2\super [167]} \{Babylon,\} I will judge you in the place where you were created, in the land where you were born.


\{God said,\} “Or, I might send an enemy army to fight against that country. Those soldiers would destroy that country—I would remove all the people and animals from that country.


“Jeremiah, say to those nations, this is what the Lord All-Powerful, the God of the people of Israel, says, ‘Drink this cup of my anger. Get drunk from it and vomit! Fall down and don’t get up. Don’t get up because I am sending a sword to kill you.’


I will send four kinds of destroyers against them.’\par This message is from the Lord.\par ‘I will send the enemy with a sword to kill.\par I will send the dogs to drag their bodies away.\par I will send birds of the air and wild animals\par to eat and destroy their bodies.\par


How much longer will the land be dry?\par How long will the grass be dry and dead?\par The animals and birds in the land have died,\par And it is the fault of the wicked people.\par Yet those wicked people are saying,\par “Jeremiah will not live long enough\par to see what happens to us.”\par


Lord, how long must I see the war flags?\par How long must I hear the war trumpets?\par


An axe is not better than the person that cuts with it. A saw is not better than the person that saws with it. \{But Assyria thinks he is more important and powerful than God.\} And this is like a stick being more powerful and important than the person that picks it up and uses it to punish someone.


\{God will say,\} “I will use Assyria {\cf2\super [113]} like a stick. In anger, I will use Assyria to punish Israel.


Lord, get up {\cf2\super [92]} and go to the enemy.\par Make them surrender.\par Use your sword and save me\par from the bad people.\par


Then the Lord commanded the angel to put his sword back into its sheath. {\cf2\super [227]}


Abner shouted to Joab and said, “Must we fight and kill each other forever? Surely you know that this will only end in sadness. Tell the people to stop chasing their own brothers.”


Then all three groups of Gideon’s men blew their trumpets and smashed their jars. The men held the torches in their left hands and the trumpets in their right hands. As those men blew their trumpets, they shouted, “A sword for the Lord, and a sword for Gideon!”


If a person does not do what the Lord says,\par if he does not use his sword\par to kill those people,\par then bad things will happen\par to that person.\par


The Lord says,\par “Sword, kill the people living in Babylon.\par Sword, kill the king’s officials\par and the wise men of Babylon.\par


The Lord All-Powerful says, “Sword, hit the shepherd! Hit my friend! Hit the shepherd and the sheep will run away. And I will punish those little ones.
