You were \{defeated and\} pulled to the ground. Now, I hear your voice rising from the ground like the voice of a ghost. Your words come like a quiet voice from the dirt.”


You were an evil king,\par and now you are finished.\par Even the pine trees are happy.\par The cedar trees of Lebanon are happy.\par The trees say,\par “The king chopped us down.\par But now the king has fallen,\par and he will never stand again.”\par


The cypress trees will cry\par because the cedar trees have fallen.\par Those powerful trees will be taken away.\par Oak trees in Bashan will cry\par for the forest that was cut down.\par


The nations will see those miracles,\par and they will be ashamed.\par They will see that their “power”\par \{is nothing compared to mine\}.\par They will \{be amazed\}\par and put their hands over their mouths!\par They will cover their ears\par \{and refuse to listen\}.\par


I will be very sad about what will happen.\par I will go without shoes and clothes.\par I will cry like a dog. {\cf2\super [11]} \par I will mourn like a bird. {\cf2\super [12]} \par


You sent your officers\par to insult the Lord my Master.\par You said,\par ‘\{I am very powerful!\}\par I have many, many chariots. {\cf2\super [354]} \par \{With my power I defeated Lebanon.\}\par I climbed the highest mountains\par of Lebanon. {\cf2\super [355]} \par I cut down all the great trees (armies)\par of Lebanon.\par I have been to the highest mountain\par and into the deepest part of that forest.\par


An axe is not better than the person that cuts with it. A saw is not better than the person that saws with it. \{But Assyria thinks he is more important and powerful than God.\} And this is like a stick being more powerful and important than the person that picks it up and uses it to punish someone.


So let them live. But they will be our servants. They will cut wood for us and carry water for all of our people.” So the leaders did not break their promise of peace to those people.


The enemy soldiers were like people\par cutting weeds with a hoe.\par


The hired soldiers in Egypt’s army\par are like fat calves.\par They will all turn and run away.\par They will not stand strong\par against the attack.\par Their time of destruction is coming.\par They will soon be punished.\par


The Lord says these things.\par “They will chop down Egypt’s\par forest (army).\par There are many trees (soldiers)\par in that forest (army)\par but they will all be cut down.\par There are more enemy soldiers than locusts. {\cf2\super [368]} \par There are so many soldiers,\par that no person can count them.\par
