Nebuzaradan burned the Lord’s temple, [318] the king’s house, and all the houses in Jerusalem. He destroyed even the largest houses.


Jerusalem thinks back.\par Jerusalem remembers the time\par when she was hurt\par and when she lost her home.\par She remembers all the nice things\par that she had in the past.\par She remembers those nice things\par that she had in the old days.\par She remembers when her people\par were captured by the enemy.\par She remembers when there was no person\par to help her.\par When her enemies saw her, they laughed.\par They laughed because she was destroyed.\par


Nebuchadnezzar and his army burned the temple. They broke down Jerusalem’s wall and burned all the houses that belonged to the king and his officials. They took or destroyed every valuable thing in Jerusalem.


to speak to the family of Israel. The Lord my Master said, ‘Look, I will destroy my holy place. You are proud of that place and sing songs of praise about it. You love to see that place. You really love that place. \{But I will destroy that place\} and your children that you left behind will be killed in battle.


The Lord rejected his altar.\par He rejected his Holy Place of worship.\par He let the enemy pull down the walls\par of the palaces of Jerusalem.\par The enemy shouted with joy\par in the Lord’s temple.\par They made noise, as if it were a holiday.\par


Nebuzaradan burned the Lord’s temple. He also burned down the king’s house and all the houses of Jerusalem. He burned down every important building in Jerusalem.


Jesus asked the followers, “Are you looking at these buildings? I tell you the truth. They will be destroyed. Every stone will be thrown down to the ground. Not one stone will be left on another.”


The priests stood ready to do their work. The Levites also stood with the instruments of the Lord’s music. These instruments were made by King David to give thanks to the Lord. The priests and Levites were singing, Praise the Lord because his love continues forever. {\cf2\super [123]} The priests blew their trumpets as they stood across from the Levites. And all the people of Israel were standing.


All the people of Israel saw the fire come down from heaven. The people of Israel also saw the Glory of the Lord on the temple. They bowed their faces down low to the ground on the pavement. They worshiped and thanked the Lord. They sang the song, The Lord is good. His kindness continues forever. {\cf2\super [120]}


Solomon said, “Give praise to the Lord God of Israel! The Lord has done what he promised to do when he talked to David my father. This is what the Lord God said:


“Praise the Lord! He promised to give rest to his people, Israel. And he has given us rest! The Lord used his servant Moses and made many good promises to the people of Israel. And the Lord has kept every one of those promises!


All of the people of Israel were standing there. So King Solomon turned to them and asked God to bless them.


All the land will be useless—destroyed by burning sulfur and covered with salt. The land will have nothing planted in it. Nothing will be growing—not even weeds. The land will be destroyed like Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboiim, the cities the Lord destroyed when he was very angry.


Your holy people lived in their land\par only a short time.\par Then our enemies trampled (walk on)\par your holy temple. {\cf2\super [463]} \par


Look how the Lord has set\par the Daughter of Zion {\cf2\super [8]} under a cloud.\par He has thrown the glory of Israel\par from the sky to the ground.\par The Lord didn’t keep in mind that Israel was his footstool,\par on the day of his anger.\par


Then the Lord’s angel said, “Lord, how long before you comfort Jerusalem and the cities of Judah? You have shown your anger at these cities for 70 years now.”
