Wake up! Wake up Zion! {\cf2\super [420]} \par Dress yourself!\par Put on your strength!\par Holy Jerusalem, stand up!\par People that have not agreed\par to follow God {\cf2\super [421]} \par will not enter you again.\par Those people are not pure and clean.\par


At that time, the Lord will judge\par Leviathan, {\cf2\super [246]} the crooked snake.\par The Lord will use his great sword,\par his hard and powerful sword, to punish\par Leviathan, the coiled snake.\par The Lord will kill\par the large creature in the sea. {\cf2\super [247]} \par


God, you defeated Rahab. {\cf2\super [505]} \par You scattered your enemies\par with your own powerful arm.\par


That useless nation is Egypt. Egypt’s help will be worth nothing. So I call Egypt the “Do-Nothing Dragon.”


Say, ‘The Lord my Master says these things:


Wake up! Wake up!\par Jerusalem, get up!\par The Lord was very angry at you.\par So you were punished.\par \{This punishment was like\} a cup of poison you had to drink.\par And you drank it.\par


God, we have heard about you.\par Our fathers told us what you did\par in their lifetime.\par They told us what you did long ago.\par


God’s power makes the sea calm.\par God’s wisdom destroyed Rahab’s {\cf2\super [49]} helpers.\par


Lord, get up {\cf2\super [37]} and show your anger!\par My enemy is angry,\par so stand and fight against him.\par Lord, get up and demand fairness!\par


You came to save your people.\par You came to lead your chosen king {\cf2\super [18]} \par to victory.\par You killed the leader in every evil family,\par from the least important person\par to the most important in the land. {\cf2\super [19]} \par SELAH {\cf2\super [20]} \par


The Lord made a promise.\par The Lord used his own power as proof.\par And the Lord will use his power\par to keep that promise.\par


The Lord is King.\par He wears majesty and strength like clothes.\par He is ready,\par so the whole world is safe.\par It will not be shaken (destroyed).\par


\{God keeps a list of all of his people.\}\par Some of them live in Egypt {\cf2\super [497]} and Babylon.\par Some of them were born in Philistia, Tyre,\par and even Ethiopia.\par


Get up, my Master!\par Why are you sleeping?\par Get up!\par Don’t leave us forever!\par


The snake was thrown down out of heaven. (The giant snake is that old snake called the devil or Satan. He leads the whole world into the wrong way.) The snake with his angels were thrown to the earth.


God reached out his arm\par and showed his power:\par He scattered those people that are proud\par and think great things about themselves.\par


It will be very bad for the person that says to a wooden statue, “Get up!” It will be very bad for the person that says to a stone that can’t speak, “Wake up!” Those things can’t help him. That statue may be covered with gold and silver, but there is no life in that statue.


Who really believed the things we announced? Who really accepted the Lord’s punishment?


I will soon show I am fair.\par I will soon save you.\par I will use my power and judge all nations.\par All the faraway places are waiting for me.\par They wait for my power to help them.\par


Finally, our Master got up\par like a man waking from his sleep,\par like a soldier after drinking\par too much wine.\par


Lord, let the songs of your power\par exalt you!\par We will sing and play songs\par about your greatness!\par


Then Gideon said, “I promise sir, if the Lord is with us, then why are we having so many troubles? We heard that he did wonderful things for our ancestors. [53] Our ancestors told us that the Lord took them out of Egypt. But the Lord left us. The Lord has allowed the people of Midian to defeat us.”


And has any other god ever tried to go and take a people for himself from inside another nation? No! But you yourselves have seen the Lord your God do all these wonderful things! He showed you his power and strength. You saw the troubles that tested the people. You saw miracles and wonders. You saw war and the terrible things that happened.


This was to make clear the full meaning of what Isaiah the prophet {\cf2\super [204]} said:


I did nothing wrong,\par but they rushed here to attack me.\par Lord, come and see for yourself!\par


So tell the people of Israel that I say to them, ‘I am the Lord. I will save you. I will make you free. You will not be slaves of the Egyptians. I will use my great power and bring terrible punishment to the Egyptians. Then I will save you.


God won’t hold his anger back.\par Even Rahab’s {\cf2\super [19]} helpers\par are afraid of God.\par


I kept thinking about the past.\par I kept thinking about things\par that happened long ago.\par


The Lord will show his holy strength\par to all the nations.\par All the faraway countries will see\par how God saves his people.\par


Everyone, be quiet!\par The Lord is coming out of his holy house.\par


\{It will be like it was before, when God brought them out of Egypt.\} He hit the sea waves, \{the sea split,\} and the people walked across that sea of troubles. The Lord will make the river streams become dry. He will destroy Assyria’s pride and Egypt’s power.)


God, with your great power\par you took this land from other people,\par and you gave it to us.\par You crushed those foreign people.\par You forced them to leave this land.\par


God, why are you hiding from us?\par Have you forgotten our pain and troubles?\par


Everything in heaven and earth\par belong to you, God.\par You made the world and everything in it.\par


I did many miracles\par when I took you out of Egypt.\par I will let you see more miracles like that.\par


But I will punish the nation that made them slaves.’ {\cf2\super [124]} And God also said, ‘After those things happen, your people will come out of that country. Then your people will worship me here in this place.’ {\cf2\super [125]}
