15 “Look, I have made you like\par a new threshing board.\par That tool has many sharp teeth,\par Farmers use it to crush the hulls\par so they will separate from the grain.\par You will trample (walk on) mountains\par and crush them.\par You will make the hills like those hulls.\par

That tall mountain will be like a flat place for Zerubbabel. He will build the temple, and when the most important stone is put in place, the people will shout, ‘Beautiful! Beautiful!’”


In anger you walked on the earth\par and punished the nations.\par


\{Isaiah said,\} “My people, I have told you everything that I heard from the Lord All-Powerful, the God of Israel. You will be crushed like grain on a threshing floor. {\cf2\super [207]} \par


Does a farmer use large boards with sharp teeth to crush dill seeds? No! Does a farmer use a wagon to crush cummin seeds? No! A farmer uses a small stick to break the hulls from these seeds of grain.


I beat my enemies to pieces.\par They were like dust\par blowing in the wind.\par I crushed them into small pieces.\par


\{And the people will be like those waves—\}\par God will speak harshly to the people,\par and they will run away.\par The people will be like chaff {\cf2\super [181]} \par being chased by the wind.\par The people will be like tumbleweeds {\cf2\super [182]} \par being chased by a storm.\par The wind blows and the weeds go far away.\par


There are many strangers there— like very small pieces of dust. There are many cruel people—like chaff {\cf2\super [266]} blowing in the wind.


I will destroy the hills and mountains.\par I will dry up all the plants that grow there.\par I will change rivers to dry land.\par I will dry up pools of water.\par


If you would tear open the skies\par and come down to earth,\par \{then everything would change\}.\par The mountains would melt before you.\par


I (Jeremiah) will cry loud for the mountains.\par I will sing a funeral song\par for the empty fields.\par Why? Because the living things\par were taken away.\par No person travels there now.\par The sounds of cattle can’t be heard there.\par The birds have flown away\par and the animals are gone.\par


\{The Lord says,\}\par “\{Babylon,\} you are my club.\par I used you to smash nations.\par I used you to destroy kingdoms.\par


The Lord All-Powerful,\par the God of the people of Israel, says:\par “Babylon is like a threshing floor. {\cf2\super [424]} \par At harvest time, people beat grain\par to separate the good parts from the chaff. {\cf2\super [425]} \par And the time to beat Babylon\par is coming soon.\par


I will make the land empty and a waste. That country will lose all the things it was proud of. The mountains of Israel will become empty. No one will pass through that place.


Then the iron, the clay, the bronze, the silver, and gold broke to pieces all at the same time. And all those pieces became like chaff {\cf2\super [14]} on a threshing floor {\cf2\super [15]} in the summertime. The wind blew those pieces away, and there was nothing left. No one could tell that a statue had ever been there. Then the rock that hit the statue became a very large mountain and filled up the whole earth.


But the survivors {\cf2\super [67]} from Jacob in the nations\par scattered among those people\par will be like a lion\par among the animals in the forest.\par They will be like a young lion\par among flocks of sheep.\par If the lion passes through,\par he goes where he wants to go.\par If he attacks an animal,\par then no one can save that animal.\par \{The survivors will be like that.\}\par


You will take the hill country. It is a forest, but you can cut down the trees and make it a good place to live. And you will own all of it. You will force the Canaanite people to leave that land. You will defeat them even if they are strong and have powerful weapons.”


The Lord answered Gideon and said, “I am with you! So you can defeat the people of Midian! It will seem like you are fighting against only one man.”


The skin on Leviathan’s belly\par is like sharp pieces of broken pottery.\par He leaves tracks in the mud\par like a threshing board. {\cf2\super [105]} \par
