Isaiah 27:8 - Easy To Read Version

8 The Lord will settle his argument with Israel by sending her far away. The Lord will speak harshly to Israel. His words will burn like the hot desert wind.

People of Israel, listen to the Lord’s message! The Lord will tell his argument against the people that live in this country. “People in this country don’t really know God. The people are not true and loyal to God.


But the vine was pulled up by the roots,\par and thrown down to the ground.\par The hot east wind blew and dried its fruit.\par The strong branches broke.\par And they were thrown into the fire.\par


Lord, correct us!\par But be fair!\par Don’t punish us in anger!\par


At that time a message will be given\par to the people of Judah and Jerusalem:\par “A hot wind blows from the bare hills.\par It comes from the desert to my people.\par It is not like the gentle wind that farmers use\par to separate the grain from the chaff. {\cf2\super [24]} \par


This makes you very happy. But now for a short time different kinds of troubles may make you sad.


\{Israel\} grows among his brothers.\par But a powerful east wind will come—\par the Lord’s wind will blow from the desert.\par Then \{Israel’s\} well will become dry.\par His spring of water will become dry.\par The wind will take every valuable thing\par from \{Israel’s\} treasure.\par


The Lord says these things.\par “Jacob, my servant, don’t be afraid.\par I am with you.\par I sent you away to many different places.\par But I will not destroy you completely.\par But I will destroy all those nations.\par You must be punished\par for the bad things you did.\par So I won’t let you escape your punishment.\par I will discipline you, but I will be fair.”\par


People of Israel and Judah, I am with you.”\par This message is from the Lord.\par “And I will save you.\par I sent you to those nations.\par But I will completely destroy\par all those nations.\par It is true, I will destroy those nations,\par but I will not destroy you.\par You must be punished\par for the bad things you did.\par But I will discipline you fairly.”\par


The Lord says these things:\par “The whole country will be ruined.\par (But I will not completely destroy the land.)\par


The only temptations that you have are the same temptations that all people have. But you can trust God. He will not let you be tempted more than you can bear. But when you are tempted, God will also give you a way to escape that temptation. Then you will be able to endure it.


I will not continue fighting forever.\par I will not always be angry.\par If I continued to be angry,\par then man’s spirit\par —the life I gave them—\par would die in front of me.\par


God says,\par “I left you,\par but only for a short time.\par I will gather you to me again.\par And I will show you great kindness.\par


The Lord says,\par “\{People of Israel, you say that I divorced\par your mother, Jerusalem.\}\par But where is the legal paper\par that proves I divorced her?\par My children, did I owe money to someone?\par Did I sell you to pay a debt?\par No! You were sold\par because of the bad things you did.\par Your mother (Jerusalem) was sent away\par because of the bad things you did.\par


My Master will finish doing the things he planned to Jerusalem and Mount Zion. {\cf2\super [116]} Then the Lord will punish Assyria. {\cf2\super [117]} The king of Assyria is very proud. His pride made him do many bad things. So God will punish him.


\{God says,\} “Why should I continue to punish you people? \{I punished you, but you did not change.\} You continue to rebel against me. Now every head and every heart is sick.


God knows all about us.\par God knows we are made from dust.\par


But God was merciful.\par He forgave them for their sins.\par And he did not destroy them.\par Many times God controlled his anger.\par He didn‘t let himself become too angry.\par


God, people respect you\par when you punish evil people.\par You show your anger,\par and the survivors {\cf2\super [434]} become stronger.\par


Lord, don’t criticize me in anger.\par Don’t discipline me in anger.\par


Lord, don’t correct me in anger.\par Don’t be angry and punish {\cf2\super [31]} me.\par


Would God use his power against me?\par No, he would listen to me!\par


The Lord does not always criticize.\par The Lord does not stay angry at us forever.\par


You are with people that enjoy doing good.\par Those people remember you by living the way you want them to.\par But in the past we sinned against you.\par So you became angry at us.\par Now, how will we be saved?\par


That person should remember that\par the Lord does not reject people forever.\par


When the Lord punishes,\par he also has mercy.\par He has mercy because of his great love\par and kindness.\par
