We defeated the town of Aroer on the edge of the Arnon Valley and the other town in the middle of that valley. The Lord let us defeat all the cities between the Arnon Valley and Gilead. No city was too strong for us.


The people of Gad built the cities of Dibon, Ataroth, Aroer,


“You people living in Aroer,\par stand next to the road and watch.\par See the man running away.\par See that woman running away.\par Ask them what happened.\par


“So we took that land to be ours. I gave part of this land to the families groups of Reuben and Gad. I gave them the land from Aroer in the Arnon Valley to the hill country of Gilead with the cities in it. They got half of the hill country of Gilead.


“At that time, a person will be able to keep only one young cow and two sheep alive.


\{God will make the people of Israel leave their country; the land will be empty.\} Sheep will go any place they want. Lambs will walk on the land that rich people once owned.


It was the land from Aroer near the Arnon Ravine to the town of Medeba. This included the whole plain and the town in the middle of the ravine.


You could lie down to rest,\par and no one would bother you.\par And many people would come to you\par for help.\par

At that time, the great city will be empty—it will be like a desert. All the people will be gone—they will run away. That city will be like an open pasture. Young cattle will eat grass there. The cattle will eat leaves from the branches of the vines.


The people will forget their shame and all the times they turned against me. They will live in safety on their own land. No one will make them afraid.
