Isaiah 17:11 - Easy To Read Version

11 You will plant your grapevines one day and try to make them grow. The next day the plants will begin to grow. But at harvest time, you will go to gather the fruit from the plants, and you will see that everything is dead. A sickness will kill all the plants.

The Israelites \{did a foolish thing\}—it was like trying to plant the wind. But \{they will get only troubles\}—they will harvest a whirlwind. The grain in the fields will grow. It will give no food. Even if it grew something, strangers would eat it.


I have seen some troublemakers\par and people who make life hard.\par But they are always punished!\par


But you people are hard and stubborn. You refuse to change. So you are making your own punishment greater and greater. You will get that punishment on the day when God will show his anger. On that day people will see God’s right judgments.


Ephraim {\cf2\super [97]} will be punished.\par Their root is dying.\par They will not have any more babies.\par They might give birth to babies,\par but I will kill the precious babies\par that come from their bodies.\par


The prophets tell lies.\par The priests will not do\par what they were chosen to do. {\cf2\super [36]} \par And my people love it this way!\par But what will you people do\par when your punishment comes?”\par


In the morning the grass grows,\par and in the evening it is dry and dying.\par


You will work hard, but it will not help. Your land will not give any crops, and your trees will not grow their fruit.


You will plant fields of grapes and work hard in them. But you will not gather the grapes or drink the wine from them. Why? Because the worms will eat them.


That time will be like grain harvest in Rephaim Valley. {\cf2\super [177]} The workers gather plants that grow in the field. Then they cut the heads of grain from the plants. And they collect the grain.


\{We planted seeds,\} but the seeds became dry and dead lying in the soil. Our plants are dry and dead. Our barns are empty and falling down.
