The Israelites have gone deep into ruin like in the time of Gibeah. {\cf2\super [91]} The Lord will remember the Israelites’ sins. He will punish their sins.


“Israel, you act like a prostitute. {\cf2\super [44]} But don’t let Judah be guilty. Don’t go to Gilgal {\cf2\super [45]} or go up to Beth-aven. {\cf2\super [46]} Don’t use the Lord’s name to make promises. Don’t say, ‘As the Lord lives …!’


Blow the trumpet on Zion. {\cf2\super [10]} \par Shout a warning on my holy mountain.\par Let all the people that live in the land\par shake with fear.\par The Lord’s special day is coming.\par The Lord’s special day is near.\par


“Give this message to the people of Judah:


Then Samuel left and went to Ramah. And Saul went up to his home in Gibeah.


“Put the trumpet to your lips \{and give the warning\}. Be like an eagle over the Lord’s house. {\cf2\super [76]} The Israelites have broken my Agreement. They have not obeyed my law.


The army will cross the river at the “Crossing” (Maabarah). The army will sleep at Geba. {\cf2\super [127]} Ramah {\cf2\super [128]} will be afraid. The people at Gibeah of Saul {\cf2\super [129]} will run away.


The men of Ephraim came from the hill country of Amalek. [45] Benjamin, those men followed you and your people. And there were commanders from the family of Makir. [46] Leaders from the family group of Zebulun came with their bronze clubs.


Blow the trumpet at Zion. {\cf2\super [14]} \par Call for a special meeting.\par Call for a special time for not eating.\par


The people from Samaria {\cf2\super [100]} worship the calves at Beth-Aven. {\cf2\super [101]} Those people will really cry. Those priests will really cry. Why? Because their beautiful \{idol\} is gone. It was carried away.


Run for your lives, people of Benjamin!\par Run away from the city of Jerusalem!\par Blow the war trumpet in the city of Tekoa!\par Put up the warning flag\par in the city of Beth Hakkerem!\par Do these things because disaster is coming from the north. {\cf2\super [37]} \par Terrible destruction is coming to you.\par


King Jeroboam put one golden calf in Bethel. [156] He put the other golden calf in the city of Dan. [157]


Give us seven of Saul’s sons. Saul was the Lord’s chosen king. So we will hang his sons in front of the Lord on Mount Gibeah of Saul.”


So all the elders (leaders) of Israel met together. They went to Ramah to meet with Samuel.


But Samuel’s home was in Ramah. So Samuel always went back to Ramah. Samuel judged and ruled Israel from that town. And Samuel built an altar to the Lord in Ramah.


After they defeated Jericho, Joshua sent some men to Ai. [31] Ai was near Beth Aven, east of Bethel. Joshua told them, “Go to Ai and look for weaknesses in that area.” So the men went to spy on that land.


If a trumpet blows a warning, then the people will surely shake with fear. If trouble comes to a city, then the Lord caused it.
