You remember that after Esau did this, he wanted to get his father’s blessing. Esau wanted that blessing so much that he cried. But his father refused to give him the blessing, because Esau could find no way to change the thing he had done.


Esau heard his father’s words. He became very angry and bitter. He cried out. He said to his father, “Then bless me also, father!”


My servants will be happy with joy,\par but you evil people will cry with sadness. {\cf2\super [474]} \par Your spirits will be broken,\par and you will be very sad.\par


Those are the twelve families of Israel. And those are the things their father said to them. He gave each son a blessing that was right for him.


Esau said, “His name is Jacob (‘Tricky’). That is the right name for him. He has tricked me twice. He took away my rights as the firstborn son. [161] And now he has taken away my blessing.” Then Esau said, “Have you saved any blessing for me?”


The messengers came to Gibeah where Saul lived. They told the news to the people. The people cried loudly.
