David crossed over to the other side of the valley. David stood on top of the mountain across the valley from Saul’s camp. David and Saul’s camp were far apart.


“Go through the camp and tell the people to get ready. Say to the people, ‘Get some food ready. Three days from now we will go across the Jordan River. We will go and take the land that the Lord your God is giving you.’”


And then, all of you men who killed other people must stay outside the camp for seven days. You must stay outside the camp even if you just touched a dead body. On the third day, you and your prisoners must make yourselves pure. You must do the same thing again on the seventh day.


“Then a clean [262] person must sprinkle this water on the unclean [263] person on the third day and again on the seventh day. On the seventh day, that person becomes clean. He must wash his clothes in water. He will become clean in the evening.


He must wash himself with the special water on the third day and again on the seventh day. If he does not do this, then he will remain unclean.


{So Hobab agreed,} and they began traveling from the mountain of the Lord. The priests took the Box of the Lord’s Agreement [155] and walked in front of the people. They carried the Holy Box for three days, looking for a place to camp.


But if any meat from this sacrifice is still left over on the third day, it must be burned in the fire.

Moses led the people of Israel away from the Red Sea [99] and into the Shur desert. They traveled for three days in the desert. The people could not find any water.


Then Aaron and Moses said, “The God of the Hebrew [42] people has talked with us. So we beg you to let us travel three days into the desert. There we will offer a sacrifice [43] to the Lord our God. If we don’t do this, he might become angry and destroy us. He might make us die from sickness or war.”


In the morning Abraham got up and saddled his donkey. Abraham took Isaac and two servants with him. Abraham cut the wood for the sacrifice. [119] Then they went to the place God told them to go.


Then Abraham said to his servants, “Stay here with the donkey. I will take my son and go to that place and worship. Then we will come back to you later.”
