When Moses heard him say this, he left Egypt. He went to live in the land of Midian. He was a stranger there. While Moses lived in Midian, he had two sons.


“Remember, in the past you were foreigners in the land of Egypt. So you should not cheat or hurt any person who is a foreigner in your land.


I am a stranger in this land.\par Lord, don’t hide your teachings from me.\par


We are only strangers traveling through\par this world like our ancestors. {\cf2\super [323]} \par Our time on earth is like a passing shadow.\par And we can’t stop it.\par


They went from one nation to another.\par They went from one kingdom to another.\par


Lord, hear my prayer!\par Listen to the words I cry to you.\par Look at my tears.\par I am only a traveler\par passing through this life with you.\par Like all my ancestors, I live here only\par a short time. {\cf2\super [241]} \par


The baby grew, and after some time, the woman gave the baby to the king’s daughter. The king’s daughter accepted the baby as her own son. She named him Moses [9] because she had pulled him from the water.


“I am only a traveler staying in your country. I have no place to bury my wife. Please give me some land so I can bury my wife.”


So Moses put his wife and children on the donkey and returned to Egypt. Moses carried his walking stick with him—the walking stick with the power of God.


“The land really belongs to me. So you can’t really sell it permanently. You are only foreigners and travelers living {on my land} with me.


The people of the family group of Dan set up the idol in the city of Dan. They made Jonathan son of Gershom their priest. Gershom was the son of Moses. [140] Jonathan and his sons were priests for the family group of Dan until the time when the Israelite people were taken into captivity.


By that time the following year, Hannah had become pregnant and had a son. Hannah named her son Samuel. [11] She said, “His name is Samuel because I asked the Lord for him.”
