Exodus 1:11 - Easy To Read Version

11 The Egyptian people decided to make life hard for the people of Israel. So the Egyptians put slave masters over the people. These masters forced the Israelites to build the cities of Pithom and Rameses for the king. The king used these cities to store grain and other things.

Then the Lord said to Abram, “You should know these things: Your descendants will live in a country that is not their own. They will be strangers there. And the people there will make them slaves and do bad things to them for 400 years.


Then the Lord said, “I have seen the troubles my people have suffered in Egypt. And I have heard their cries when the Egyptians hurt them. I know about their pain.


Moses grew and became a man. He saw that his own people, the Hebrews, [10] were forced to work very hard. One day Moses saw an Egyptian man beating a Hebrew man.


Joseph did what Pharaoh said and gave his father and brothers land in Egypt. It was the best land in Egypt, {in the eastern part of the country} in the land of Rameses.


God says,\par “I took the load from your shoulder.\par I let you drop the worker’s basket.\par


The Egyptians treated us badly. They made us slaves. They hurt us and forced us to work very hard.


Many, many years ago our ancestors [271] went down into Egypt. And we lived there for many years. The people of Egypt were cruel to us.


Anger is cruel and mean. It causes destruction. But jealousy is much worse.


They traveled from nation to nation,\par from one kingdom to another.\par


They will get the dove wings\par covered with silver.\par They will get the wings\par sparkling with gold.”\par


Solomon also built the town of Tadmor in the desert. He built all the towns in Hamath to store things in.


King Solomon also built cities where he could store grain and things. And he built places for his chariots and his horses. King Solomon also built many things that he wanted in Jerusalem and in Lebanon and in all the places he ruled.


Then the Hebrew [47] foremen went to Pharaoh. They complained and said, “We are your servants. Why are you treating us like this?


The Egyptians made life hard for the Israelites. They forced the Israelites to work very hard making bricks and mortar. They also forced them to work hard in the fields. They forced them to work very hard in everything they did.


So the Egyptian slave masters and the Hebrew [45] foremen went to the people of Israel and said, “Pharaoh has decided that he will not give you straw for your bricks.


Ben Hadad agreed with King Asa. Ben Hadad sent the commanders of his armies to attack the towns of Israel. Those commanders attacked the towns of Ijon, Dan, and Abel Maim. They also attacked all the towns in the area of Naphtali where treasures were stored.


I have had many enemies all my life.\par


But they must still make the same number of bricks as they did before. They have become lazy. That is why they are asking me to let them go. They don’t have enough work to do. That is why they asked me to let them make sacrifices [44] to their God.
