37 “The Lord loved your ancestors. [20] That is why he chose you, their descendants. [21] And that is why the Lord brought you out of Egypt. He was with you and brought you out with his great power.

The Lord loved your ancestors [61] very much. He loved them so much that he chose you, their descendants, [62] to be his people. He chose you instead of any other nation. And you are still his chosen people today.


The people had many troubles,\par but the Lord was not against them.\par The Lord loved the people\par and felt sorry for them.\par So the Lord saved them.\par He sent his special angel to save them.\par He picked them up and carried them,\par and \{he will take care of them\} forever.\par


The Lord answered, “I myself will go with you. I will lead you. [334] ”


“In the future, your children will ask why you do this. They will say, ‘What does all this mean?’ And you will answer, ‘The Lord used his great power to save us from Egypt. We were slaves in that place. But the Lord led us out and brought us here.


“This holiday will help you remember—it will be like a string tied on your hand. It will be like a sign before your eyes. [83] This holiday will help you remember the Lord’s teachings. It will help you remember that the Lord used his great power to take you out of Egypt.


Moses said to the people, “Remember this day. You were slaves in Egypt. But on this day the Lord used his great power and made you free. You must not eat bread with yeast.


Those people are the descendants {\cf2\super [74]} of our great fathers. {\cf2\super [75]} And they are the earthly family of Christ. Christ is God over all things. Praise him forever! {\cf2\super [76]} Amen.


The Lord said, “I love you people.”


The Lord said these things, “At that time, I will be the God of all the family groups of Israel. And they will be my people.”


The Lord protects good people.\par He hears their prayers.\par


\{The Lord says,\}\par “I will teach you and guide you\par on the way you should live.\par I will protect you and be your guide.\par


The eyes of the Lord go around looking in all the earth for people who are faithful to him so he can make those people strong. Asa, you did a foolish thing. So from now on you will have wars.”


You are going in to take their land, but not because you are good and live right. You are going in, and the Lord your God is forcing those people out because of the evil way they lived. And the Lord wants to keep the promise he made to your ancestors [57] —Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.


And has any other god ever tried to go and take a people for himself from inside another nation? No! But you yourselves have seen the Lord your God do all these wonderful things! He showed you his power and strength. You saw the troubles that tested the people. You saw miracles and wonders. You saw war and the terrible things that happened.


But the Lord your God refused to listen to Balaam. The Lord changed the curse into a blessing for you. Why? Because the Lord your God loves you.


Yes, the Lord loves his people. All his holy people are in his hand. They sit at his feet and learn his teachings!


Moses said this about Benjamin:


It was not our father’s swords\par that took the land.\par It was not their strong arms\par that made them winners.\par It was because you were with our fathers.\par God, your great power saved our fathers.\par Why? Because you loved them!\par


From far away, the Lord\par will appear to his people.\par


After 430 years, to the very day, all the armies of the Lord [76] left Egypt.


But we asked the Lord for help. The Lord heard us and sent an angel to help us. The Lord has brought us out of Egypt.


Why? Because you are the Lord’s own people. From all the people on earth, the Lord your God chose you to be his special people—people that belong only to him.


You are very important to me, so I will honor you. I love you, and I will give all people and nations so you can live.”
