Deuteronomy 16:8 - Easy To Read Version

8 You must eat unleavened bread [100] six days. On the seventh day you must not do any work. On this day, the people will come together for a special meeting to honor the Lord your God.

You will bring an offering by fire to the Lord for seven days. On the eighth day you will have another holy meeting. You will bring an offering by fire to the Lord. This will be a holy meeting. You must not do any work.


Tell the people that there will be a special time for not eating food. Call the people together for a special meeting. Bring the leaders and all the people that live in the land together. Bring them to the temple {\cf2\super [7]} of the Lord your God, and pray to the Lord.


On the eighth day they had a holy meeting because they had celebrated for seven days. They made the altar {\cf2\super [127]} holy and it was to be used only for worshiping the Lord. And they celebrated the feast for seven days.


Ezra read to them from the Book of the Law every day of the festival. Ezra read the Law to them from the first day of the festival to the last day. The people of Israel celebrated the festival for seven days. Then on the eighth day the people met together for a special meeting, like the Law says.


“Then, on the seventh day {of this holiday}, you will have another special meeting. You will not do any work on that day.
