Daniel 8:3 - Easy To Read Version

3 I looked up, and I saw a ram {\cf2\super [88]} standing at the side of the Ulai River. The ram had two long horns. The horns were both long, but one horn was longer than the other horn. The long horn was farther back than the other horn.

“You saw a ram with two horns. Those horns are the countries of Media and Persia.


While I was standing there, I looked up. And I saw a man standing in front of me. He was wearing linen {\cf2\super [119]} clothes. He wore a belt made of pure gold {\cf2\super [120]} around his waist.


Then I turned around. I looked up and saw four chariots {\cf2\super [15]} going between four bronze mountains.


Then I looked up and saw two women with wings like a stork. They flew out, and with the wind in their wings, they picked up the bucket. They flew through the air carrying the bucket.


The angel that was talking to me went outside. He said, “Look! What do you see coming?”


I looked up again, and I saw a flying scroll. {\cf2\super [10]}


Then I looked up, and I saw a man holding a rope for measuring things.


Then I looked up and I saw four horns.


“And then I saw a second animal there in front of me. This animal looked like a bear. It was raised up on one of its sides, and it had three ribs in its mouth between its teeth. It was told, ‘Get up and eat all the meat you want!’


So Daniel was successful during the time that Darius was king and during the time that Cyrus the Persian was king.


A man named Darius the Mede became the new king. Darius was about 62 years old.


“Another kingdom will come after you—\{that is the silver part\}. But that kingdom will not be as great as your kingdom. Next, a third kingdom will rule over the earth—that is the bronze part.


Sharpen the arrows!\par Get your shields!\par The Lord stirred up the kings\par of the Medes. {\cf2\super [418]} \par He has stirred them up\par because he wants to destroy Babylon.\par The Lord will give the people of Babylon\par the punishment that they deserve.\par The army from Babylon destroyed\par the Lord’s temple {\cf2\super [419]} in Jerusalem.\par So the Lord will give them\par the punishment they should have.\par


The Lord says to Cyrus, {\cf2\super [398]} \par “You are my shepherd.\par You will do the things I want.\par You will say to Jerusalem,\par ‘You will be built again!’\par You will tell the temple, {\cf2\super [399]} \par ‘Your foundations will be built again!’”\par


I have seen something very terrible\par that will happen.\par I see traitors {\cf2\super [205]} turning against you.\par I see people taking your wealth.\par


\{God says,\} “Look, I will cause the armies of Media to attack Babylon. \{The armies of Media will not stop attacking,\} even if they are paid silver and gold.


In the third year of Xerxes’ rule, he gave a party for his officers and leaders. The army leaders and important leaders from all of Persia and Media were there.


Those enemies hired government officials to work against the people of Judah. Those officials constantly did things to stop the Jews’ plans to build the temple. This continued the whole time that Cyrus was the king of Persia until Darius became the king of Persia.


“From Cyrus king of Persia:


David looked up and saw the Lord’s angel in the sky. The angel was holding his sword over the city of Jerusalem. Then David and the elders (leaders) bowed with their faces touching the ground. David and the elders (leaders) were wearing the special clothes to show their sadness.


When Joshua was near Jericho he looked up and saw a man standing in front of him. The man had a sword in his hand. Joshua went to the man and asked, “Are you a friend to our people, or are you one of our enemies?”


Balaam looked out across the desert and saw all the people of Israel. They were camped with the family groups in their different areas. Then the Spirit of God came to Balaam.


Then I saw a Lamb standing in the center of the throne with the four living things around it. The elders {\cf2\super [41]} were also around the Lamb. The Lamb looked like it had been killed. It had seven horns and seven eyes. These are the seven spirits of God that were sent into all the world.


Then I saw another animal coming up out of the earth. He had two horns like a lamb, but he talked like a giant snake.


In the vision, I saw that I was in the city of Susa. {\cf2\super [87]} Susa was the capital city in the province of Elam. I was standing by the Ulai River.
