Acts 7:8 - Easy To Read Version

8 God made an agreement with Abraham; the sign for this agreement was circumcision. {\cf2\super [126]} And so when Abraham had a son, he circumcised his son when he was eight days old. His son’s name was Isaac. Isaac also circumcised his son Jacob. And Jacob did the same for \{his sons. These sons later became\} the twelve fathers. {\cf2\super [127]}

Jacob and his group left Bethel. Just before they came to Ephrath (Bethlehem), Rachel began giving birth to her baby.


You can see that Melchizedek {\cf2\super [57]} was very great. Abraham, {\cf2\super [58]} our great father, {\cf2\super [59]} gave Melchizedek one-tenth of everything that Abraham won in battle.


This is what I mean: The agreement \{that God gave to Abraham\} was made official long before the law {\cf2\super [38]} came. The law came 430 years later. So the law could not take away the agreement and change God’s promise.


Brothers and sisters, let me give you an example: Think about an agreement that one person makes with another person. After that agreement is made official, no person can stop that agreement or add anything to it. And no person can ignore that agreement.


So how did this happen? Did God accept Abraham {\cf2\super [37]} before or after he was circumcised? God accepted him before his circumcision. {\cf2\super [38]}


But you obey the law Moses gave you the law about circumcision {\cf2\super [108]} —and sometimes you do it on a Sabbath day. (Really, Moses is not the one that gave you circumcision. Circumcision came from our people \{that lived before Moses\}.) Yes, you often circumcise babies on a Sabbath day.


Abraham {\cf2\super [3]} was the father of Isaac.\par Isaac was the father of Jacob.\par Jacob was the father of Judah and his brothers.\par


Abraham was the father of Isaac. Isaac’s sons were Esau and Israel. [10]


Rachel died while giving birth to the son. Before dying, Rachel named the boy Benoni. [211] But Jacob called him Benjamin. [212]


The Lord saw that Jacob loved Rachel more than Leah. So the Lord made it possible for Leah to have children. But Rachel did not have any children.


Bilhah became pregnant and gave Jacob a son.
