7 We sailed slowly for many days. It was hard for us to reach the city of Cnidus because the wind was blowing against us. We could not go any farther that way. So we sailed by the south side of the island of Crete near Salmone.

The men did not eat for a long time. Then one day Paul stood up before them and said, “Men, I told you not to leave Crete. You should have listened to me. Then you would not have all this trouble and loss.


Even one of their own prophets (teachers) \{from Crete\} said, “Cretan people are always liars. They are evil animals and lazy people who do nothing but eat.”


I left you in Crete so that you could finish doing the things that still needed to be done. And I also left you there so that you could choose men to be elders {\cf2\super [3]} in every town.


Crete and Arabia. Some of us were born Jews. Others are converts. {\cf2\super [22]} We are from these different countries. But we can hear these men in our own languages! We can all understand the great things they are saying about God.”


We left the city of Sidon. We sailed close to the island of Cyprus because the wind was blowing against us.
