18 Paul stayed with the brothers (believers) for many days. Then he left and sailed for Syria. Priscilla and Aquila were also with him. At Cenchrea, Paul cut off his hair. {\cf2\super [368]} \{This showed that\} he had made a promise (vow) to God.
18 And Paul after this tarried there yet a good while, and then took his leave of the brethren, and sailed thence into Syria, and with him Priscilla and Aquila; having shorn his head in Cenchrea: for he had a vow.
18 Afterward Paul remained many days longer, and then told the brethren farewell and sailed for Syria; and he was accompanied by Priscilla and Aquila. At Cenchreae he [Paul] cut his hair, for he had made a vow.
18 And Paul, having tarried after this yet many days, took his leave of the brethren, and sailed thence for Syria, and with him Priscilla and Aquila: having shorn his head in Cenchreæ; for he had a vow.
18 After Paul stayed in Corinth for some time, he said good-bye to the brothers and sisters. At the Corinthian seaport of Cenchreae he had his head shaved, since he had made a solemn promise. Then, accompanied by Priscilla and Aquila, he sailed away to Syria.
18 Yet truly, Paul, after he had remained for many more days, having said goodbye to the brothers, sailed into Syria, and with him were Priscilla and Aquila. Now he had shaved his head in Cenchreae, for he had made a vow.
Take these men with you and share in their cleansing (washing) ceremony. {\cf2\super [423]} Pay their expenses. Then they can shave their heads. {\cf2\super [424]} Do this and it will prove to everyone that the things they have heard about you are not true. They will see that you obey the law of Moses in your own life.
“The Nazirite [93] must go to the entrance of the Meeting Tent. [94] There he must shave off his hair that he grew for the Lord. That hair will be put in the fire that is burning under the sacrifice of the fellowship offering.
To the Jews I became like a Jew. I did this to help save the Jews. I myself am not ruled by the law. {\cf2\super [60]} But to people that are ruled by the law I became like a person who is ruled by the law. I did this to help save those people that are ruled by the law.
In Corinth Paul met a Jewish man named Aquila. Aquila was born in the country of Pontus. But Aquila and his wife, Priscilla, had recently moved \{to Corinth\} from Italy. They left Italy because Claudius {\cf2\super [358]} commanded that all Jews must leave Rome. Paul went to visit Aquila and Priscilla.
“Tell these things to the people of Israel: A man or a woman might want to separate from other people for a time. This special time of separation allows a person to give himself totally to the Lord for a time. That person will be called a Nazirite. [86]
We sailed near the island of Cyprus. We could see it on the north side, but we did not stop. We sailed to the country of Syria. We stopped at the city of Tyre because the ship needed to unload its cargo there.
Apollos began to speak very boldly in the synagogue. {\cf2\super [374]} Priscilla and Aquila heard him speak. They took him to their home and helped him understand the way of God better.
The news about Jesus spread all over Syria. And people brought all the sick people to Jesus. These sick people were suffering from different kinds of diseases and pain. Some people were suffering with very bad pain, some people had demons {\cf2\super [55]} inside them, some people were epileptics, {\cf2\super [56]} and some people were paralyzed (crippled). Jesus healed all these people.
Apollos wanted to go to the country of Achaia. So the brothers \{in Ephesus\} helped him. They wrote a letter to the followers \{of Jesus in Achaia\}. In the letter they asked these followers to accept Apollos. These followers \{in Achaia\} had believed in Jesus because of God’s grace (kindness). When Apollos went there, he helped them very much.
