“Then people will treat you badly. People will give you \{to the rulers\} to be persecuted (hurt) and killed. All people will hate you. All these things will happen to you because you believe in me.


Remember the lesson I told you: A servant is not greater than his master. If people did wrong to me, then they will do wrong to you too. And if people obeyed my teaching, then they will obey yours too.


I was with you every day in the temple {\cf2\super [363]} area. Why didn’t you try to arrest me there? But this is your time—the time when darkness (sin) rules.”


People will make you leave their synagogues. {\cf2\super [222]} Yes, a time is coming when people will think that killing you would be doing service for God.


Help us to be brave by showing us your power: make sick people well, give proofs, and make miracles {\cf2\super [78]} happen by the power of Jesus, your holy servant.”


The church (believers) everywhere in Judea, Galilee, and Samaria had a time of peace. With the help of the Holy Spirit, {\cf2\super [196]} the group became stronger. The believers showed that they respected the Lord by the way they lived. Because of this, the group of believers grew larger and larger.


Evil people will not control\par good people’s land forever.\par If that happened, then even good people\par might start doing bad things.\par


At that time Herod, {\cf2\super [195]} the ruler \{of Galilee\}, heard the things people said about Jesus.


Before this time, Herod {\cf2\super [197]} had arrested John. {\cf2\super [198]} Herod had tied John with chains and put him into prison. Herod arrested John because of Herodias. Herodias was the wife of Philip, Herod’s brother.


On Herod’s {\cf2\super [200]} birthday, the daughter of Herodias danced for Herod and his group. Herod was very pleased with her.


They gathered the money and gave it to Barnabas and Saul. Then Barnabas and Saul brought it to the elders {\cf2\super [232]} in Judea.


Herod ordered James to be killed with a sword. James was the brother of John.
