2 Kings 4:39 - Easy To Read Version

39 One man went out into the field to gather herbs. He found a wild vine and picked the fruit from it. He put that fruit in his robe and brought it back. He cut up the wild fruit and put it into the pot. But the group of prophets [33] did not know what kind of fruit it was.

Be careful that no person fails to get God’s grace (kindness). Be careful that no person becomes like a bitter weed growing among you. A person like that can ruin your whole group.

Judah, I planted you like a special vine.\par All of you were like good seed.\par How did you turn into a different vine that grows bad fruit?\par


What more could I do for my field of grapes?\par I did everything I could.\par I hoped for good grapes to grow.\par But there were only bad grapes.\par Why did that happen?\par


One time Esau came back from hunting. He was tired and weak from hunger. Jacob was boiling a pot of beans.


They covered the walls in this room with cedar boards—none of the stones in the walls could be seen. They carved pictures of flowers and gourds [42] into the cedar.


Elisha went to Gilgal again. There was a time of hunger in the land. The group of prophets [32] was sitting in front of Elisha. Elisha said to his servant, “Put the large pot on the fire, and make some soup for the group of prophets.”


Then they poured some of the soup for the men to eat. But when they began to eat the soup, they shouted out {to Elisha}, “Man of God [34] ! There’s poison in the pot!” {The food tasted like poison} so they could not eat that food.


Being excited about something is not enough. You must also know what you are doing. You should not rush into something or you will do it wrong.
