4 The Lord did this because Manasseh killed many innocent people. Manasseh had filled Jerusalem with their blood. And the Lord would not forgive {those sins}.

And Manasseh killed many innocent people. He filled Jerusalem from one end to another with blood. And all those sins are in addition to the sins that caused Judah to sin. Manasseh caused Judah to do the things that the Lord said were wrong.’”


“You must tell them that the Lord and Master says these things, ‘You eat meat with the blood still in it. You look to your idols {\cf2\super [271]} for help. You murder people. So why should I give you this land?


Let us say to him,\par “We have sinned and have been stubborn.\par Because of this, you haven’t forgiven us.\par


I will do these things because the people of Judah quit following me. They have made this a place for foreign gods. The people of Judah have burned sacrifices in this place to other gods. The people did not worship those gods long ago. Their ancestors {\cf2\super [157]} did not worship those gods. These are new gods from other countries. The kings of Judah filled this place with the blood of the innocent children.


You have blood on your hands!\par It is the blood of the poor, innocent people.\par You did not catch those people\par breaking into your house!\par You killed them for no reason!\par


God’s people killed innocent people.\par They killed their own children\par and offered them to those false gods.\par


Then innocent people will not be killed in the land that the Lord your God is giving you. And you will not be guilty for any deaths.


“Don’t let your land be ruined with innocent blood. If a person murders someone, then the only payment for that crime is that the murderer must be killed! There is no other payment that will free the land from that crime.


“Manasseh king of Judah has done these hated things and has done more evil than the Amorites before him. Manasseh also has caused Judah to sin because of his idols. [260]


The other things that Jehoiakim did are written in the book The History of the Kings of Judah.


I will make the people of Judah\par an example of some terrible thing\par for all the people on earth.\par I will do this to the people of Judah\par because of what Manasseh {\cf2\super [127]} did in Jerusalem.\par Manasseh was the son of King Hezekiah.\par Manasseh was a king of Judah.’\par


“Jehoiakim, your eyes look\par only for what benefits yourself.\par You are always thinking about\par getting more for yourself.\par You are willing to kill innocent people.\par You are willing to steal things\par from other people.”\par


“From the time that Jerusalem was built until now, the people of this city have made me angry. This city has made me so angry, I must remove it from my sight.


“So the Lord my Master says these things:\par ‘It will be bad for \{Jerusalem\}.\par It will be bad for that city of murderers.\par Jerusalem is like a pot with rust on it.\par And those spots of rust can’t be removed!\par \{That pot is not clean, so you must\}\par take every piece of meat out of the pot!\par \{Don’t eat that meat!\}\par And don’t let \{the priests\} choose any\par \{of that ruined meat\}.\par


“A person might hear these curses, but he might comfort himself and say, ‘I will continue doing what I want. Nothing bad will happen to me.’ That person might cause bad things to happen not only to himself but to everyone—even to the good people. [192]


But the Lord did not stop being angry at the people of Judah. The Lord was still angry at them for all the things that Manasseh had done.


eyes that show a man is proud,\par tongues that tells lies,\par hands that kill innocent people,\par


You must say, ‘The Lord my Master says this: The city is full of murderers. So her time of punishment will come! She made filthy idols for herself. And those idols made her filthy!


I put her blood on the bare rock,\par so it would not be covered.\par I did this so people would get angry and\par punish her for killing innocent people.’\par
