9 The king of Assyria heard a rumor about Tirhakah king of Ethiopia. The rumor said, “Tirhakah has come to fight against you!”

Then a messenger came to Saul. The messenger said, “Come quickly! The Philistines are attacking us!”


The king of Assyria sent his three most important commanders with a large army to King Hezekiah in Jerusalem. Those men left Lachish and went to Jerusalem. They stood near the aqueduct [225] by the Upper Pool. (The Upper Pool is on the road to the Washers’ Field.)


The commander heard that the king of Assyria had left Lachish. So the commander found his king fighting against Libnah. [234]
