Anything that the people offer as holy gifts, I, the Lord, give to you. This is your share. I give it to you and your sons and your daughters. This law will continue forever. It is an agreement with the Lord that can’t be broken. [245] I make this promise to you and to your descendants. [246] ”


You must also put salt on every grain offering you bring. You must not let the salt of God’s Agreement be missing from your grain offering. You must bring salt with all your offerings.


“So the Lord has kept the promise that he gave. I am the king now in place of David my father. Now I rule the people of Israel like the Lord promised. And I built the temple for the Lord, the God of Israel.


Then you will offer them before the Lord. The priests will sprinkle salt on them. Then the priests will offer the bull and ram up as a burnt offering to the Lord.


I will put him in charge of my house and kingdom forever. His rule will continue forever!’”


When you die, and you join your ancestors, {\cf2\super [195]} then I will let your own son be the new king. The new king will be one of your sons. And I will make his kingdom strong.


“King, God Most High made your grandfather {\cf2\super [58]} Nebuchadnezzar a very great and powerful king. God made him very important.


Then maybe I would turn away from Jacob’s {\cf2\super [281]} descendants. {\cf2\super [282]} And then maybe I would not let David’s descendants rule over the descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. But David is my servant. And I will be kind to those people. And I will again cause good things to happen to those people.”


I will not help because you never wanted my knowledge. You refused to fear and respect the Lord.


So I continued speaking. I said, “What you people are doing is not right! You know that you should fear and respect God. You should not do the shameful things other people do!


Jesse sent someone to get his youngest son. This son was a good-looking, red-faced [145] young man. He was very handsome.


The Lord said to Samuel, “How long will you feel sorry for Saul? You are feeling sorry for him, even after I told you that I refuse to let Saul be the king of Israel! Fill your horn [141] with oil and go to Bethlehem. I am sending you to a man named Jesse. Jesse lives in Bethlehem. I have chosen one of his sons to be the new king.”


But those people don’t want to remember what happened long ago. The skies were there, and God made the earth from water and with water. All this happened by God’s word.


Then Joab and his men attacked the Arameans. The Arameans ran away from Joab and his men.


Now, Lord God of Israel, keep your promise to your servant David. This is what you promised: You said, ‘David, you will not fail to have a man from your family sit on Israel’s throne in front of me. This will happen only if your sons are careful in what they do. They must obey my law the same as you have obeyed my law.’
