1 Kings 8:1 - Easy To Read Version

1 Then King Solomon called together all the elders of Israel, the heads of the family groups, and the leaders of the families of Israel. He asked them to come to him in Jerusalem. Solomon wanted them to join in bringing the Box of the Agreement [101] from the City of David [102] into the temple.

David, the elders (leaders) of Israel, and the generals {\cf2\super [170]} went to get the Box of the Agreement. {\cf2\super [171]} They brought it out from Obed Edom’s house. Everyone was very happy!


The Scripture {\cf2\super [17]} says:


I will do good things! Soon, I will save \{my people\}. I will bring salvation to Zion and to my wonderful Israel.”


Because of those things, the Lord my Master says, “I will put a rock—a cornerstone—in the ground in Zion. {\cf2\super [259]} This will be a very precious stone. {\cf2\super [260]} Everything will be built on this very important rock. Any person that trusts \{in that rock\} will not be disappointed.


Then people in Zion will tell about the Lord.\par They will praise his name in Jerusalem.\par


You people living on Zion,\par sing praises to the Lord. {\cf2\super [49]} \par Tell other nations about the great things\par the Lord did.\par


So, by the seventh month, {\cf2\super [10]} the people of Israel had moved back to their own home towns. At that time, all the people met together in Jerusalem. They were all united as one people.


King Hezekiah sent messages to all the people of Israel and Judah. He wrote letters to the people of Ephraim and Manasseh {\cf2\super [361]} also. Hezekiah invited all those people to come to the Lord’s temple {\cf2\super [362]} in Jerusalem so they all could celebrate the Passover {\cf2\super [363]} for the Lord God of Israel.


David gathered all the leaders of the people of Israel. He commanded all those leaders to come to Jerusalem. David called all the leaders of the family groups, the commanders of the army groups serving the king, the captains, the generals, the officials taking care of the property and animals that belonged to the king and his sons, the king’s important officials, the powerful heroes, and all the brave soldiers.


David told all the people of Israel to meet together at Jerusalem \{while the Levites carried\} the Box of the Agreement {\cf2\super [153]} to the place he had made for it.


Then David made his home in the fortress. {\cf2\super [114]} That is why it is named the City of David. {\cf2\super [115]}


Solomon woke up. He knew that God had talked to him in the dream. Then Solomon went to Jerusalem and stood before the Box of the Lord’s Agreement. [16] Solomon offered a burnt offering for the Lord. And he made fellowship offerings to the Lord. After that, he gave a party for all of the leaders and officials that helped him rule.


When David’s men came to the threshing floor [38] of Nacon, the cows stumbled, and God’s Holy Box began to fall off the wagon. Uzzah caught the Holy Box.


Joshua called all the family groups of Israel to meet together at Shechem. Then Joshua called the older leaders, the heads of the families, the judges, and the officers and the rulers and the judges of Israel. These men stood before God.


At this time, Joshua called a meeting of all the older leaders, heads of families, judges, and officers of the people of Israel. Joshua said, “I have grown very old.


One man from each and every family group {will help you}. This man will be the leader of his family group.


Then David died. He was buried in the City of David.
