If a wise man contend with a fool, whether he be angry or laugh, he shall find no rest.


7 A merciful man doth good to his own soul: but he that is cruel casteth off even his own kindred.


The just taketh notice of the cause of the poor: the wicked is void of knowledge.


But neither he, nor his servants, nor the people of the land did obey the words of the Lord, that he spoke in the hand of Jeremias the prophet.


Shall I not visit for these things, sayeth the Lord? and shall not my soul take revenge on such a nation?


If the clouds be full, they will pour out rain upon the earth. If the tree fall to the south, or to the north, in what place soever it shall fall, there shall it be.


5 My eyes also shall be open, and my ears attentive to the prayer of him that shall pray in this place.


And he arose, and ate, and drank, and walked in the strength of that food forty days and forty nights, unto the mount of God, Horeb.


8 And he said: I have not troubled Israel, but thou and thy father's house, who have forsaken the commandments of the Lord, and have followed Baalim.


6 And when David had made an end of speaking these words to Saul, Saul said: Is this thy voice, my son David? And Saul lifted up his voice, and wept.


7 And the word of the Lord came to Jeremias the prophet, after that the king had burnt the volume, and the words that Baruch had written from the mouth of Jeremias, saying:
