8 For thus saith the Lord: Behold I will cast away far off the inhabitants of the land at this time: and I will afflict them, so that they may be found.


0 Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in my house, and try me in this, saith the Lord: if I open not unto you the flood-gates of heaven, and pour you out a blessing even to abundance.


0 For as thorns embrace one another: so while they are feasting and drinking together, they shall be consumed as stubble that is fully dry.


In the day of my trouble I sought God, with my hands lifted up to him in the night, and I was not deceived. My soul refused to be comforted:


4 And I will strengthen the arms of the king of Babylon, and will put my sword in his hand: and I will break the arms of Pharao, and they shall groan bitterly being slain before his face.


9 Coph. Our persecutors were swifter than the eagles of the air: they pursued us upon the mountains, they lay in wait for us in the wilderness.


2 Lamed. They said to their mothers: Where is corn and wine? when they fainted away as the wounded in the streets of the city: when they breathed out their souls in the bosoms of their mothers.


2 And it shall come to pass, that in that day the Lord will strike from the channel of the river even to the torrent of Egypt, and you shall be gathered together one by one, O ye children of Israel.


4 Therefore, thus saith the Lord the God of hosts: O my people that dwellest in Sion, be not afraid of the Assyrian: he shall strike thee with his rod, and he shall lift up his staff over thee in the way of Egypt.

For thou hast struck all them who are my adversaries without cause: thou hast broken the teeth of sinners.

8 His bones are like pipes of brass, his gristle like plates of iron.


If I was not humbly minded, but exalted my soul: As a child that is weaned is towards his mother, so reward in my soul.


1 But wild beasts shall rest there, and their houses shall be filled with serpents, and ostriches shall dwell there, and the hairy ones shall dance there:


3 And there shall be month after month, and sabbath after sabbath: and all flesh shall come to adore before my face, saith the Lord.


For thus saith the Lord to the house of the king of Juda: Thou art to me Galaad the head of Libanus: yet surely I will make thee a wilderness, and cities not habitable.


6 And such of them as shall flee shall escape: and they shall be in the mountains like doves of the valleys, all of them trembling, every one for his iniquity.


They have abused father and mother in thee, they have oppressed the stranger in the midst of thee, they have grieved the fatherless and widow in thee.


4 And they shall appoint men to go continually about the land, to bury and to seek out them that were remaining upon the face of the earth, that they may cleanse it: and after seven months they shall begin to seek.


0 This shall befall them for their pride: because they have blasphemed, and have been magnified against the people of the Lord of hosts.


And Judas begot Phares and Zara of Thamar. And Phares begot Esron. And Esron begot Aram.


0 Who doth things great and incomprehensible, and wonderful, of which there is no number.


As God liveth, who hath taken away my judgment, and the Almighty, who hath brought my soul to bitterness,


I remembered God, and was delighted, and was exercised, and my spirit swooned away.


2 For the Lord is our judge, the Lord is our lawgiver, the Lord is our king: he will save us.


1 Caph. My eyes have failed with weeping, my bowels are troubled: my liver is poured out upon the earth, for the destruction of the daughter of my people, when the children, and the sucklings, fainted away in the streets of the city.
