2 For if you keep the commandments which I command you, and do them, to love the Lord your God, and walk in all his ways, cleaving unto him,


A PRAYER OF HABACUC THE PROPHET FOR IGNORANCES.


I will look on you, and make you increase: you shell be multiplied, and I will establish my covenant with you.

5 If any man's work burn, he shall suffer loss; but he himself shall be saved, yet so as by fire.


In the eighth month, in the second year of king Darius, the word of the Lord came to Zacharias the son of Barachias, the son of Addo, the prophet, saying:


For before the harvest it was all flourishing, and it shall bud without perfect ripeness, and the sprigs thereof shall be cut off with pruning hooks: and what is left shall be cut away and shaken out.


1 And he helped the poor out of poverty: and made him families like a flock of sheep.


But when he saw that the three were not able to answer, he was exceedingly angry.


7 Because thou didst not serve the Lord thy God with joy and gladness of heart, for the abundance of all things:


3 Be the heaven, that is over thee, of brass: and the ground thou treadest on, of iron.


7 But for the wrath of the enemies I have deferred it: lest perhaps their enemies might be proud, and should say: Our mighty hand, and not the Lord, hath done all these things.


For thus saith the Lord to me: I will take my rest, and consider in my place, as the noon light is clear, and as a cloud of dew in the day of harvest.


Take the girdle which thou hast got, which is about thy loins, and arise, and go to the Euphrates, and hide it there in a hole of the rock.


2 When thou shalt till it, it shall not yield to thee its fruit: a fugitive and vagabond shalt thou be upon the earth.


And as Abdias was in the way, Elias met him: and he knew him, and fell on his face, and said: Art thou my lord Elias?


9 And I will espouse thee to me for ever: and I will espouse thee to me in justice, and judgment, and in mercy, and in commiserations.
