And Abimelech the son of Jerobaal went to Sichem to his mother's brethren and spoke to them, and to all the kindred of his mother's father, saying:


And thou shalt say: Hear the word of the Lord, O ye kings of Juda, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem: Thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Behold I will bring an affliction upon this place: so that whoever shall hear it, his ears shall tingle:


5 And Jeroboam built Sichem in mount Ephraim, and dwelt there, and going out from thence he built Phanuel.


But he left the counsel of the old men, which they had given him, and consulted with the young men, that had been brought up with him, and stood before him.


King Roboam took counsel with the old men, that stood before Solomon his father while he yet lived, and he said: What counsel do you give me, that I may answer this people?

And he came to his father's house in Ephra, and slew his brethren the sons of Jerobaal, seventy men, upon one stone: and there remained only Joatham the youngest son of Jerobaal, who was hidden.


3 And when all the people that were with Ismahel, had seen Johanan the son of Caree, and all the captains of the fighting men that were with him, they rejoiced.


And the children of Israel gave out of their possessions according to the commandment of the Lord, cities and their suburbs.


5 Neither did they shew mercy to the house of Jerobaal Gedeon, according to all the good things he had done to Israel.
