4 As a beast that goeth down in the field, the spirit of the Lord was their leader: so didst thou lead thy people to make thyself a glorious name.


1 And he remembered the days of old of Moses, and of his people: Where is he that brought them up out of the sea, with the shepherds of his flock? where is he that put in the midst of them the spirit of his Holy One?


The foot shall tread it down, the feet of the poor, the steps of the needy.


For think diligently upon him that endured such opposition from sinners against himself; that you be not wearied, fainting in your minds.


2 And they said to him, We are come to bind thee and to deliver thee into the hands of the Philistines. And Samson said to them: Swear to me, and promise me, that you will not kill me.


4 Now when he was come to the place of the Jawbone, and the Philistines shouting went to meet him, the spirit of the Lord came strongly upon him: and as the flax is wont to be consumed at the approach of fire, so the bands with which he was bound were broken and loosed.


6 And he said: With the jawbone of an ass, with the jaw of the colt of asses I have destroyed them, and have slain a thousand men.


5 And finding a jawbone, even the jawbone of an ass which lay there, catching it up, be slew therewith a thousand men.


1 And when he had enclosed them with walls, he put in them governors and storehouses of provisions, that is, of oil and of wine.
