There is but one, and he hath not a second, no child, no brother, and yet he ceaseth not to labour, neither are his eyes satisfied with riches, neither doth he reflect, saying: For whom do I labour, and defraud my soul of good things? in this also is vanity, and a grievous vexation.


If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth.


Behold I will send you Elias the prophet, before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord.


Shall a man afflict God? for you afflict me. And you have said: Wherein do we afflict thee? in tithes and in firstfruits.


3 Behold my servant shall understand, he shall be exalted, and extolled, and shall be exceeding high.


9 Let them that detract me be clothed with shame: and let them be covered with the their confusion as with a double cloak.


3 For the Lord hath heard the poor: and hath not despised his prisoners.


For behold I was conceived in iniquities; and in sins did my mother conceive me.


Consider, and hear me, O Lord my God. Enlighten my eyes that I never sleep in death:


8 I feared all my works, knowing that thou didst not spare the offender.


Then he fled and avoided them and dwelt in the land of Tob: and there were gathered to him needy men, and robbers, and they followed him as their prince.


0 Thou shalt do the same with the firstborn of thy oxen also and sheep: seven days let it be with its dam, the eighth day thou shalt give it to me.


9 But if so also I am wicked, why have I laboured in vain?


6 He diggeth through houses in the dark, as in the day they had appointed for themselves, and they have not known the light.


8 He is light upon the face of the water: cursed be his portion on the earth, let him not walk by the way of the vineyards.


0 And he said to him: What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother's blood crieth to me from the earth.


For, lo, the wicked have bent their bow; they have prepared their arrows in the quiver; to shoot in the dark the upright of heart.


Is my inheritance to me as a speckled bird? Is it as a bird died throughout? come ye, assemble yourselves, all the beasts of the earth, make haste to devour.


0 Many pastors have destroyed my vineyard, they have trodden my portion under foot: they have changed my delightful portion into a desolate wilderness.
