8 And I will persecute them with the sword, and with famine, and pith the pestilence: and I will give them up unto affliction to all the kingdoms of the earth: to be a curse, and an astonishment, and a hissing, and a reproach to all the nations to which I have driven them out:


3 And I charged Baruch before them, saying:


4 We give you also to understand concerning all the priests, and the Levites, and the singers, and the porters, and the Nathinites, and ministers of the house of this God, that you have no authority to impose toll or tribute, or custom upon them.

0 And we have not hearkened to the voice of the Lord our God, to walk in his law, which he set before us by his servants the prophets.


1 And Darius the Mede succeeded to the kingdom, being threescore and two years old.


3 Thus saith the Lord the God of Israel: I made a covenant with your fathers in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage, saying:


4 For thou art sent from before the king, and his seven counsellors, to visit Judea and Jerusalem according to the law of thy God, which is in thy hand.


Who is there among you of all his people? His God be with him. Let him go up to Jerusalem, which is in Jndert, and build the house of the Lord the God of Israel: he is the God that is in Jerusalem.


8 And the general of the army took Seraias the chief priest, and Sophonias the second priest, and three doorkeepers.


3 Sing ye to the Lord, praise the Lord: because he hath delivered the soul of the poor out of the hand of the wicked.


5 For I have not sent them, saith the Lord: and they prophesy in my name falsely: to drive you out, and that you may perish, both you, and the prophets that prophesy to you.


Nevertheless hear this word that I speak in thy ears, and in the ears of all the people:


0 And all the princes, and all the people who entered into the covenant, heard that every man should let his manservant, and every man his maidservant go free, and should no more have dominion over them: and they obeyed, and let them go free.


1 But afterwards they turned: and brought back again their servants and their handmaids, whom they had let go free, and brought them into subjection as menservants and maidservants.
