5 The beloved grew fat, and kicked: he grew fat, and thick and gross, he forsook God who made him, and departed from God his saviour.


2 The iniquity of Ephraim is bound up, his sin is hidden.


4 And his fame went throughout all Syria, and they presented to him all sick people that were taken with divers diseases and torments, and such as were possessed by devils, and lunatics, and those that had palsy, and he cured them:


And I will be to them as a lioness, as a leopard in the way of the Assyrians.


0 Scale down the walls thereof, and throw them down, but do not utterly destroy: take away the branches thereof, because they are not the Lord's.


6 The children also of Memphis, and of Taphnes have deflowered thee, even to the crown of the head.


0 Pass over to the isles of Cethim, and see: and send into Cedar, and consider diligently: and see if there hath been done any thing like this.


A people that continually provoke me to anger before my face: that immolate in gardens, and sacrifice upon bricks.


7 Why hast thou made us to err, O Lord, from thy ways: why hast thou hardened our heart, that we should not fear thee? return for the sake of thy servants, the tribes of thy inheritance.


2 And I will meditate on all thy works: and will be employed in thy inventions.


He shall receive a blessing from the Lord, and mercy from God his Saviour.


6 Therefore Job openeth his mouth in vain, and multiplieth words without knowledge.


0 Because it shut not up the doors of the womb that bore me, nor took away evils from my eyes.


9 And the men of the city said to Eliseus: Behold the situation of this city is very good, as thou, my lord, seest: but the waters are very bad, and the ground barren.


8 And depart not hence, till I return to thee, and bring a sacrifice, and offer it to thee. And he answered: I will wait thy coming.


Thou shalt not adore them, nor serve them: I am the Lord thy God, mighty, jealous, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me:


4 Who, when they had set forward and had gone up to the mountains, came as far as the valley of the cluster: and having viewed the land,


4 And I will scatter them as stubble, which is carried away by the wind in the desert.


1 We are confounded, because we have heard reproach: shame hath covered our faces: because strangers are come upon the sanctuaries of the house of the Lord.


For the Lord thy God will bring thee into a good land, of brooks and of waters, and of fountains: in the plains of which and the hills deep rivers break out:


0 Declare ye this to the house of Jacob, and publish it in Juda, saying:


You only have I known of all the families of the earth: therefore will I visit upon you all your iniquities.
