THE burden of Babylon, which Isaias the son of Amos saw.


4 In that day shall Israel be the third to the Egyptian and the Assyrian: a blessing in the midst of the land,


And the people shall rush one upon another, and every man against his neighbour: the child shall make it tumult against the ancient, and the base against the honourable.


So that we may confidently say: The Lord is my helper: I will not fear what man shall do to me.


8 Son of man, sing a mournful song for the multitude of Egypt: and cast her down, both her, and the daughters of the mighty nations to the lowest part of the earth, with them that go down into the pit.


For thus saith the Lord to me: Like as the lion roareth, and the lion's whelp upon his prey, and when a multitude of shepherds shall come against him, he will not fear at their voice, nor be afraid of their multitude: so shall the Lord of hosts come down to fight upon mount Sion, and upon the hill thereof.


6 From the ends of the earth we have heard praises, the glory of the just one. And I said: My secret to myself, my secret to myself, woe is me: the prevaricators have prevaricated, and with the prevarication of transgressors they have prevaricated.


7 These things have I suffered without the iniquity of my hand, when I offered pure prayers to God.

8 Thou hast not suffered me to kiss my sons and daughters: thou hast done foolishly: and now, indeed,

2 It is yet day enough, to remain in Nobe: he shall shake his hand against the mountain of the daughter of Sion, the hill of Jerusalem.


They shall not drink wine with a song: the drink shall be bitter to them that drink it.


2 And they shall come, and shall give praise in mount Sion: and they shall flow together to the good things of the Lord, for the corn, and wine, and oil, and the increase of cattle and herds, and their soul shall be as a watered garden, and they shall be hungry no more.


1 Son of man, set thy face against Sidon: and thou shalt prophesy of it,


3 Know you not what I and my fathers have done to all the people of the lands? have the gods of any nations and lands been able to deliver their country out of my hand?


4 And the thickets of the forest shall be cut down with iron, and Libanus with its high ones shall fall.


The eyes of them that see shall not be dim, and the ears of them that hear shall hearken diligently.
