This is a very great evil among all things that are done under the sun, that the same things happen to all men: whereby also the hearts of the children of men are filled with evil, and with contempt while they live, and afterwards they shall be brought down to hell.


2 Seest thou, that faith did co-operate with his works; and by works faith was made perfect?


because thou hast been my helper. And I will rejoice under the covert of thy wings:


Bring to the Lord glory and honour: bring to the Lord glory to his name: adore ye the Lord in his holy court.


He that sacrificeth an ox, is as if he slew a man: he that killeth a sheep in sacrifice, as if he should brain a dog: he that offereth an oblation, as if he should offer swine's blood; he that remembereth incense, as if he should bless an idol. All these things have they chosen in their ways, and their soul is delighted in their abominations.


Thus saith the Lord: In an acceptable time I have heard thee, and in the day of salvation I have helped thee: and I have preserved thee, and given thee to be a covenant of the people, that thou mightest raise up the earth, and possess the inheritances that were destroyed:


Then shalt thou understand the fear of the Lord, and shalt find the knowledge of God.


9 For God indeed was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, not imputing to them their sins; and he hath placed in us the word of reconciliation.


5 Far be it from thee to do this thing, and to slay the just with the wicked, and for the just to be in like case as the wicked, this is not beseeming thee: thou who judgest all the earth, wilt not make this judgment.


8 If a famine arise in the land, or a pestilence or blasting, or mildew, or locusts, or caterpillars: or if their enemies waste the country, and besiege the cities, whatsoever scourge or infirmity shall be upon them:


0 Shall not the fewness of my days be ended shortly? suffer me, therefore, that I may lament my sorrow a little:


1 Whatsoever shall befall the just man. it shall not make him sad: but the wicked shall be filled with mischief.


9 And that Babylon, glorious among kingdoms, the famous pride of the Chaldeans, shall be even as the Lord destroyed Sodom and Gomorrha.


4 Behold my servants shall rejoice, and you shall be confounded: behold my servants shall praise for joyfulness of heart, and you shall cry for sorrow of heart, and shall howl for grief of spirit.


5 And you shall leave your name for an execration to my elect: and the Lord God shall slay thee, and call his servants by another name.


And many nations shall pass by this city: and they shall say every man to his neighbor: Why hath the Lord done so to this great city?


8 Behold the days come, saith the Lord, that the city shall be built to the Lord from the tower of Hanameel even to the gate of the corner.


Behold I have made thy face stronger than their faces: and thy forehead harder than their foreheads.


8 Because he considereth and turneth away himself from all his iniquities which he hath wrought, he shall surely live, and not die.


2 And you shall do as I have done: you shall not cover your faces, nor shall you eat the meat of mourners.


6 None of his sins, which he hath committed, shall be imputed to him: he hath done judgment and justice, he shall surely live.


2 Therefore, because of you, Sion shall be ploughed as a field, and Jerusalem shall be as a heap of stones, and the mountain of the temple as the high places of the forests.

8 Moses therefore commanded Eleazar the priest, and Josue the son of Nun, and the princes of the families of all the tribes of Israel, and said to them:

Turn the wicked, and they shall not be: but the house of the just shall stand firm.


Better are the wounds of a friend, than the deceitful kisses of an enemy.


He cropped off the top of the twigs thereof: and carried it away into the land of Chanaan, and he set it in a city of merchants.
