The shield of his mighty men is like fire, the men of the army are clad in scarlet, the reins of the chariot are flaming in the day of his preparation, and the drivers are stupefied.


3 Then Daniel was brought in before the king. And the king spoke, and said to him: Art thou Daniel of the children of the captivity of Juda, whom my father the king brought out of Judea?

And the Lord hath not given you al heart to understand, and eyes to see, and ears that may hear, unto this present day.


All the princes of the kingdom, the magistrates, and governors, the senators, and judges have consulted together, that an imperial decree, and an edict be published: That whosoever shall ask any petition of any god, or man, for thirty days, but of thee, O king, shall be cast into the den of lions.


6 They provoked him by strange gods, and stirred him up to anger, with their abominations.


2 For if my enemy had reviled me, I would verily have borne with it. And if he that hated me had spoken great things against me, I would perhaps have hidden myself from him.


And the days of David drew nigh that he should die, and he charged his son Solomon, saying:


3 But thou a man of one mind, my guide, and my familiar,


7 For thus saith the Lord: All the land shall be desolate, but yet I will not utterly destroy.
