One rock stood out towards the north over against Machmas, and the other to the south over against Gabaa.


And they said to him: Behold thou art old, and thy sons walk not in thy ways: make us a king, to judge us, as all nations have.


And they said to the messengers that came: Thus shall you say to the men of Jabes Galaad: Tomorrow, when the sun shall be hot, you shall have relief. The messengers therefore came, and told the men of Jabes: and they were glad.


2 And Cibsaim, and Beth-horon, with their suburbs, four cities.


As they called them, they went away from before their face: they offered victims to Baalim, and sacrificed to idols.


7 My God will cast them away, because they hearkened not to him: and they shall be wanderers among the nations.


In their affliction they will rise early to me: Come, and let us return to the Lord:


3 Thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: As yet shall they say this word in the land of Juda, and in the cities thereof, when I shall bring back their captivity: The Lord bless thee, the beauty of justice, the holy mountain.


8 So Baasa slew him in the third year of Asa king of Juda, and reigned in his place.


Then Samuel did as the Lord had said to him. And he came to Bethlehem, and the ancients of the city wondered, and meeting him, they said: Is thy coming hither peaceable?


If they shall speak thus to us: Stay till we come to you: let us stand still in our place, and not go up to them.


1 So that their shares, and their spades, and their forks, and their axes were blunt, even to the goad, which was to be mended.


And some of the Hebrews passed over the Jordan into the land of Gad and Galaad. And when Saul was yet in Galgal, all the people that followed him were greatly afraid.


The messengers therefore came to Gabaa of Saul: and they spoke these words in the hearing of the people: and all the people lifted up their voices, and wept.


And his armourbearer said to him: Do all that pleaseth thy mind: go whither thou wilt, and I will be with thee wheresoever thou hast a mind.


0 But if they shall say: Come up to us: let us go up, because the Lord hath delivered them into our hands, this shall be a sign unto us.
