As they called them, they went away from before their face: they offered victims to Baalim, and sacrificed to idols.


1 And he brought him into his house, and gave provender to his asses: and after they had washed their feet, he entertained them with a feast.


The days of visitation are come, the days of repaying are come: know ye, O Israel, that the prophet was foolish, the spiritual man was mad, for the multitude of thy iniquity, and the multitude of thy madness.


The fool shall no more be called prince: neither shall the deceitful be called great:


3 For it shall be thus in the midst of the earth, in the midst of the people, as if a few olives, that remain, should be shaken out of the olive tree: or grapes, when the vintage is ended.


7 And the old man lifting up his eyes, saw the man sitting with his bundles in the street of the city, and said to him: Whence comest thou? and whither goest thou?


8 But the children of Israel returning, put all the remains of the city to the sword, both men and beasts, and all the cities and villages of Benjamin were consumed with devouring flames.


8 If I go forth into the fields, behold the slain with the sword: and if I enter into the city, behold them that are consumed with famine. The prophet also and the priest are gone into a land which they knew not.


7 Ephraim is a partaker with idols, let him alone.


In their affliction they will rise early to me: Come, and let us return to the Lord:


0 And the pride of Israel shall be humbled before his face: and they have not returned to the Lord their God, nor have they sought him in all these.


6 Ephraim is struck, their root is dried up, they shall yield no fruit. And if they should have issue, I will slay the best beloved fruit of their womb.


5 The Lord hath taken away thy judgment, he hath turned away thy enemies: the king of Israel the Lord is in the midst of thee, thou shalt fear evil no more.


0 Let me alone, that my wrath may be kindled against them, and that I may destroy them, and I will make of thee a great nation.


7 And in the morning the man arose, and opened the door that he might end the journey he had begun: and behold his concubine lay before the door with her hands spread on the threshold.


Thou art become guilty in thy blood which thou hast shed: and thou art defiled in thy idols which thou hast made: and thou hast made thy days to draw near, and hast brought on the time of thy years: therefore have I made thee a reproach to the Gentiles, and a mockery to all countries.
