0 But when thou art spoiled what wilt thou do? though thou deckest thee with ornaments of gold, and paintest thy eyes with stibic stone, thou shalt dress thyself out in vain: thy lovers have despised thee, they will seek thy life.


0 As yet there is a fire in the house of the wicked, the treasures of iniquity, and a scant measure full of wrath.


3 It is sown in dishonour, it shall rise in glory. It is sown in weakness, it shall rise in power.


Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness, and patience, and longsuffering? Knowest thou not, that the benignity of God leadeth thee to penance?


0 And I have spoken by the prophets, and I have multiplied visions, and I have used similitudes by the ministry of the prophets.


In the beginning of the reign of Joakim the son of Josias king of Juda, came this word from the Lord, saying:


2 They have denied the Lord, and said, It is not he: and the evil shall not come upon us: we shall not see the sword and famine.


And the streams thereof shall be turned into pitch, and the ground thereof into brimstone: and the land thereof shall become burning pitch.


6 And I will restore thy judges se they were before, and thy counsellors as of old. After this thou shalt be called the city of the just, a faithful city.


Behold, I will bring of the synagogue of Satan, who say they are Jews, and are not, but do lie. Behold, I will make them to come and adore before thy feet. And they shall know that I have loved thee.


0 But I have against thee a few things: because thou sufferest the woman Jezabel, who calleth herself a prophetess, to teach, and to seduce my servants, to commit fornication, and to eat of things sacrificed to idols.


I must work the works of him that sent me, whilst it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.


The Lord hath sworn against the pride of Jacob: surely I will never forget all their works.


Ephraim shall be in desolation in the day of rebuke: among the tribes of Israel I have shewn that which shall surely be.


2 And the word of the Lord came to Jeremias from the Lord, saying:


1 And thou shalt say to them: Thus saith the Lord of hosts: even so will I break this people, and this city, as the potter's vessel is broken, which cannot be made whole again: and they shall be buried in Topheth, because there is no other place to bury in.


Thus saith the Lord: Learn not according to the ways of the Gentiles: and be not afraid of the signs of heaven, which the heathens fear:


And they shall spread them abroad to the sun, and the moon, and all the host of heaven, whom they have loved, and whom they have served, and after whom they have walked, and whom they have sought, and adored: they shall not be gathered, and they shall not be buried: they shall be as dung upon the face of the earth.


1 Therefore thus saith the Lord: Behold, I will bring destruction upon this people, by which fathers and sons together shall fall, neighbor and kinsman shall perish.


I will go therefore to the great men, and I will speak to them: for they known the way of the Lord, the judgement of their God: and behold these have together broken the yoke more, and have burst the bonds.


2 Be astonished, O ye heavens, at this, and ye gates thereof, be very desolate, saith the Lord.


3 As one whom the mother caresseth, so will I comfort you, and you shall be comforted in Jerusalem.


6 Search ye diligently in the book of the Lord, and read: not one of them was wanting, one hath not sought for the other: for that which proceedeth out of my mouth, he hath commanded, and his spirit it hath gathered them.


2 And now do not mock, lest your bonds be tied strait. For I have heard of the Lord the God of hosts a consumption and a cutting short upon all the earth.


1 Woe to you that rise up early in the morning to follow drunkenness, and to drink till the evening, to be inflamed with wine.


8 And then come, and accuse me, saith the Lord: if your sins be as scarlet, they shall be made as white as snow: and if they be red as crimson, they shall be white as wool.


4 And Sedecias the son of Chanaana came, and struck Micheas on the cheek, and said: Hath then the spirit of the Lord left me, and spoken to thee?


2 For our iniquities are multiplied before thee, and our sins have testified against us: for our wicked doings are with us, and we have known our iniquities:


6 And he saw that there is not a man: and he stood astonished, because there is none to oppose himself: and his own arm brought salvation to him, and his own justice supported him.


1 And I will make Jerusalem to be heaps of sand, and dens of dragons: and I will make the cities of Juda desolate, for want of an inhabitant.


3 O thou that dwellest upon many waters, rich in treasures, thy end is come for thy entire destruction.


0 The country is destroyed, the ground hath mourned: for the corn is wasted, the wine is confounded, the oil hath languished.


6 And he fed them with the fat of wheat, and filled them with honey out of the rock.


7 Hath not this been done to thee, because thou hast forsaken the Lord thy God at that time, when he led thee by the way?


5 Therefore thus saith the Lord of hosts the God of Israel: Behold I will feed this people with wormwood, and give them water of gall to drink.


5 What is the meaning that my beloved hath wrought muck wickedness in my house? shall the holy flesh take away from thee thy crimes, in which thou hast boasted?


3 Because thou hast not remembered the days of thy youth, but hast provoked me in all these things: wherefore I also have turned thy ways upon thy head, saith the Lord God, and I have not done according to thy wicked deeds in all thy abominations.


2 And I will be like a moth to Ephraim: and like rottenness to the house of Juda.


1 If Galaad be an idol, then in vain were they in Galgal offering sacrifices with bullocks: for their altars also are as heaps in the furrows of the field.


Publish it in the houses of Azotus, and in the houses of the land of Egypt, and say: Assemble yourselves upon the mountains of Samaria, and behold the many follies in the midst thereof, and them that suffer oppression in the inner rooms thereof.
