17 2 For I was ashamed to ask the king for aid and for horsemen, to defend us from the enemy in the way: because we had said to the king: The hand of our God is upon all them that seek him in goodness: and his power and strength, and wrath upon all them that forsake him.

4 Not giving heed to Jewish fables and commandments of men, who turn themselves away from the truth.


Both the great and the little shall die in the land: they shall not be buried nor lamented, and men shall not cut themselves, nor make themselves bald for them.


7 Thou therefore gird up thy loins, and arise, and speak to them all that I command thee. Be not afraid at their presence : for I will make thee not to fear their countenance.


2 Artaxerxes king of kings to Esdras the priest, the most learned scribe of the law of the God of heaven, greeting.

7 And take this rod in thy hand, wherewith thou shalt do the signs.


And of the sons of Benjamin: Sale the son of Mosollam, the son of Oduia, the son of Asana:


1 And I proclaimed there a fast by the river Ahava, that we might afflict ourselves before the Lord our God, and might ask of him a right way for us and for our children, and for all our substance.
