And at the evening sacrifice I rose up from my affliction, and having rent my mantle and my garment, I fell upon my knees, and spread out my hands to the Lord my God,


0 Thou, O king, hast made a decree that every man that shall bear the sound of the trumpet, the flute, and the harp, of the sackbut, and the psaltery, of the symphony, and of all kind of music, shall prostrate himself, and adore the golden statue:


4 So the swift posts went out carrying the messages, and the king's edict was hung up in Susan.


0 And these letters which were sent in the king's name, were sealed with his ring, and sent by posts: who were to run through all the provinces, to prevent the former letters with new messages.


And he came lamenting in this manner even to the gate of the palace: for no one clothed with sackcloth might enter the king's court.

So the Jews made a great slaughter of their enemies, and killed them, repaying according to what they had prepared to do to them:
